Could be wrong but here is a link where you can look at the specs for ASUS P35 boards. Use the drop down on the right for different P35 boards. Click. There's no 45nm CPU yet on the market, and I couldn't find any DDR III SDRAM module, either, in South Korea. But there's this great motherboard named ConRoe1333-D667 from ASRock. Just US$50. 945GC-A2 chipset-based, supports both Conroe and Kentsfield, but not Penryn, has GMA 950 graphics.

ASRock ConRoe1333-D667 (50,000 KRW)
Conroe E2140 (77,000 KRW)
1GB DDR II PC5300 (28,000 KRW) - either two 512MB or single 1GB
= 155,000 KRW, or about 166 USD.

I expected Intel's new ICH9(R) to have something new, but there's no dramatic change. Just two more SATA II channels than ICH7.

Got the patriot memory and my P5B-plus did not pick up the timings properly via SPD and would not boot. After putting in the proper 4-4-4-12 it booted and ran fine.

I upped the FSB to 400 Vcore to 1.35 and ran Orthos. Put my Vdimm at 2.15v, pci freq at 33.3 and pci at 100. everything else at (auto). Orthos would not run for long so I changed my Vcore to 1.45 and everything was stable for 1 hour.
I know that's not very long but I have been waiting a long time

I now have changed my extended memory timings to 4-4-4-12-4-42-3-10-5-13 and everything is running at 3.2gig DDR2800 for a good 10 minutes. If this works I wil go to the more aggressive 4-4-4-12-4-42-3-9-5-9 that was suggested. I think that the GKill and the Patriot both use the Micron D9 chips.

Is there any reason to change the FSB voltage or NB voltage from (auto)?
My tmps are 29c idle and 47c-53c under Orthos load.

For mine to run at 3.2 Ghz I just put the Vcore to 1.265v and set the memory voltage to manufactures specs. Lock the pci bus to 33.3 and that's it. I now know that nealh and others are right about the B chips as I built the exact same PC as I have for my brother last week the only difference was the his is a F chip IIRC and to get his to run stable at 3.2Ghz he needed 1.365 Vcore. There should be no reason to add more memory voltage if you are not pushing it over 800 Mhz. In my experience if it fails to boot past bios it's normally a memory issue (timings) and if it boots and freezes in Windows then it's probably not enough vcore. You can't nail it down for sure but that has been my past experience. As for your memory timings my board only has the ability to change the first 4 timings so see the pic for my timings on the D9 chip. looks like you jumped from 1.35 to 1.45 on the vcore. Might want to go a little slower as like zevia mentioned before not all chips are the same.

Well I had to keep my voltage at 4.375v but my load temps are about 47-57c.(Idle is 27c) That is stable at 3.2gig and DDR2 800. I am going to be happy if this rig runs at 3.2 and is stable. I can boot into windows with less voltage but not run Orthos for long.

Everything is running really well and I changed the memory timing to DDR21000 5-5-5-15. It is running smoothly and that change definitely makes a difference.

I added another 2 GIG of ram (same part numbers as existing ram) to this PC (E6600) and lost stability at FSB 390Mhz
I've had to turn the wick down a bit to FSB 380Mhz to get the PC stable again.

The RAM seems to have a lot to do with the stability. The timings are crucial. As well as the voltage. I am running steady at 400mhz x 8 multiplier with 2gigs of DDR2 800 pushed to DDR2 1000. C2D E-6420
I am very impressed with this ASUS P5B-Plus. Maybe I could have done this with the ASUS P5B-E version 1.01g. (the version 1.02g are hard to come by.) However, I wanted the extra voltage for the Vdimm the P5B-Plus offered.

This sure boots up fast but unfortunatly Orhtos fails withinn 10 seconds.
Idle temp is 38-40 deg c.
FSB = 424
MCH = 1.85v
Mem = 2.35v
Vcore=1.500v
Going to pick up a Themalright Ultra 120 eXtreme CPU cooler (with Scythe S-Flex 120 mm fan) tomorrow as this review indicates under load it can run about 10 deg cooler than my Zalman 9500. Hope it fits. System actually runs fine except for Orthos although I am a little timid to go over 1.5 vcore. It's the long weekend and I had nothing better to do.

@Dee-27. Just a thought, I wonder if your MCH (Memory Controller Hub) needs a little more voltage with more memory to feed.

May be the MB is capable to carry more than 2GB of RAM?.

TCAS,

did you forget "not" in your question??
Actual MBs should easily allow 4GB or RAM, but some of them only can access up to 3GB using 32bit OS'.

@TCAS
The m/board can accommodate 8GIG of ram so no problem there.

@crossg. I may try uping the MCH voltage but in all honesty, for the sake of 10Mhz FSB speed, i will probably just leave it as it is, as the extra 2GIG makes Vista 64 fly anyway.

One other thing i've noticed in this thread, is a lot of debate about cooling and i also notice a lot of you are running very high speed CPU fans. That must create a lot of noise?
I can't stand fan noise and bought a Scythe Kama-Meter Multi Functional Controller a while ago, which allows excellent monitoring of fan speeds and internal temperatures and allows precise control of fan speeds. my own CPU fan (Artec freezer 7 pro) has a top speed of 2800RPM i have mine running at 1500RPM and still have very effective CPU cooling and a very quiet system.

I agree that 380 FSB is more than enough. My chip loves that speed, kinda the sweet spot for mine.

Yep mine is noisey but unfortunatly my quiet went out the window when I bought that stupid GeForce (toaster oven)8800GTX. Just read a review on the Radeon™ HD 2900XT (DX10) and that thing runs in the 90 deg C under load so I would imagine it will get noisey trying to cool a system with that card as well. I miss my quiet P4 system.

Well I bought and installed the Themalright Ultra 120 eXtreme CPU cooler. Still very hot at high OC so their tests and Orthos are two different things or they were on drugs. Still at 3.4 Ghz and 3.2 Ghz it runs about 5 to 8 deg cooler than my Zalman and I don't plan to run at 61 deg so this will work fine. Also quieter than my Zalman. Temps L/H: Idle R/H: Load

What are you going to do with so much RAM in one PC? Load test DVD files to burn on RAM?

I got some new hardware during the last two days.

CPU:

Intel Core 2 Duo Conroe E6320 1.83GHz
Intel Celeron D Cedarmill 3.2GHz
AMD Athlon X2 Brisbane 3600+ 1.9GHz
AMD Athlon Venice 3000+

M/B:

Gigabyte (Intel chipset) P35-DS3P - DDR II
Biostar (Intel chipset) 945G - DDR II
Biostar (AMD chipset) 690G - DDR II
DFI Lanparty NF4 - DDR I only

RAM:

Samsung PC5300 DDR II 1GB * 2
DigiWorks PC5300 DDR II 1GB * 4

HDD:

Western Digital 160GB PATA
Western Digital 200GB SATA
Western Digital 320GB SATA II
Seagate 500GB SATA II
Samsung 120GB 2.5-Inch PATA
Samsung 200GB PATA
Samsung 320GB SATA II

Router:

EMF Networks IP-Time 8-Port 105Mbps

Though I bought Conroe E6320, I still believe E2140 is much more cost-effective than any other Conroe. I could have bought two E2140's instead. And I could have bought FOUR Conroe-supporting motherboards instead of the Gigabyte P35.

For the time being, I'm going to use only stock heatsinks and fans. Cedarmill Celeron on a very cheap motherboard is at least 30% overclockable. Brisbane on a US$70 AMD chipset-motherboard is at least 15% overclockable. I haven't tested E6320. I want to decrease CPU voltage.

@Kenshin let us know how the Gigabyte P35 board works for you. I almost bought the GA-P35T-DQ6 but it was pricey at $316.00 and didn't find that much info on it, the only other board available here at the moment is the ASUS PK5 and it's pretty basic.

DQ6 has been available in South Korea for some time in addition to all other Gigabyte P35 boards. PK5, Gigabyte's P35 series, and MSI's are most popular here. I bought DS3P for about US$180, a bit lower than regular retail price. DQ6 is much better but I felt even the DS3P is overkill in many ways to me.

One of the reasons I chose E6320 instead of much cheaper E2140 is to test overclocking ability of the combination (E6320 + Gigabyte P35 + cheapest DDR II PC-5300 modules + cheapest NVidia 7300GT PCI-E card) using Intel's stock HSF.

Though I have a few notebooks and a few desktop motherboards here at my Bucheon home, I don't have any desk or table. Since everything has to lie on the floor, it's awkward to test anything. Once I had TEN 1.8 meter by 0.9 meter tables at home. Maybe I have to get a few smaller tables like 1.2 meter by 0.6 meter.

I'd better work harder to save more money for my next-generation upgrades in the coming 45nm and 32nm and 22nm eras.

At xtremesystems.org, I had looked for some information before getting Conroe E6320 and Gigabyte P35 board. I couldn't find anything negative.

Does anybody know how much the first series of Penryn (or its desktop version) will cost at the time of retail release? I hope it will start from US$300, not US$1,000.
