Don't think they are that impressive. I've seen people do more with their conroes, mine are just some lowly systems.

Well, I got the ASUS P5B-Plus motherboard and GSkill RAM today. Put it all together and it did not light up the screen.
The HSF started turning and no beeps. Tried the RAM one stick at a time. ... . Nada no beeps either. Put a PCI video card in Nada. Took the video card out .. no beeps.
I think that it is the CPU or motherboard. I have put many systems together and have never had a bad CPU. I think that it is the motherboard .. RATS:

any other ideas. It is a new Antec Power supply and it tests good. Nothing else is attached. All connectors are in place.

Is it a Antec NEO HE? This is known to have problems with the new ASUS boards.

The only two cases I've encountered this "no-beep but motherboard led on and heat sink fan spins" are:

- Motherboard cannot detect CPU: when I tried to install E6300 to an older LGA775 motherboard but apparently the motherboard only supports up to Pentium IV LGA775.

- CPU dead: I fried a CPU and when testing it on several motherboards it does not give me beep but CPU fan spins.

Sorry to hear that Sam. Maybe you can try the CPU in another motherboard (your friend's maybe?).

I tried another CPU in the motherboard with the same results (Nada).

First CPU was an e6420 the second was a celeron D.

I have RMA'd the motherboard. Thanks to Newegg's great RMA policy I will have another motherboard next Monday and I will try again.

Sure hope both CPU's aren't toast now.

E2140 is cheaper just for about US$80. I'll be happy to have E2140 until I get Penryn. Penryn-supporting motherboards look great, too.

I couldn't find E2140, E2160, and any P35 motherboard at newegg.com. E2140 is selling for 81,000 Won (about US$80) in Seoul.

I got the new motherboard and everything was going swimmingly until I did a stress test on the board. I ran Orthos and it would not go more than 50 sec before getting a failure. I changed the CPU thinking that was the culprit. No, same problem. I stuck some old RAM in that I had laying around and the problem went away. Two sticks of new GSkill DDR2 800 that I got with the motherboard were bad. Ouch!

I have RMA'd them to Newegg and will have replacements probably on Fri.

I ordered some Patriot Extreme DDR2 800. I will continue to relate the saga.

Let me tell you that it took some time to really determine what the problem was. I must have spent 5 hours going back and forth with the CPU's and the RAM and different BIOS settings.

Dallyup52, sorry to hear that and thanks for letting us know. Did you set the GSkill timings as specs on your P5B as suggested by gskill rep here: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/....php?t=116029?

When I first put my GSkill 2GBHZ in my P5B Deluxe it failed Orthos in 10 secs just because I only set 4-4-4-12 and others are Auto, even failed when I up the voltage to 2.2V. After searching for the complete settings as suggested (4-4-4-12-4-42-3-9-5-9), it works fine with default voltage 2.0V. To bad you returned the RAM. Let us know how the Patriot goes.

I didn't find the thread that you quoted. I set the timings SPD, then 4,4,4,12, then everything to auto and nothing changed. Too bad I never found that thread maybe it would have helped. I used voltages up to 2.4V.
I will post after I get the new RAM

Does anyone know the other extended voltage settings for the patriot DDR2 800 RAM? I understand the settings that appear by default are pretty loose. 4-42-3-9-5-9 would tighten it up considerably. Default on the ASUS P5B-plus board are 6-42-10-10-10-10. Someone posted that the Micron D9's could go down from 42 to 25.??

I sent a request for the settings to Patriot Tech support but I don't have high hopes for that.
