| With GTX 480 so huge, hot, loud, what Nvidia card to get instead? GTX 460 good? I seek to find a card to provide good Nvidia performance for my 30" LCD for mostly gaming but have heard much bad of the GTX 480. The size, too much heat and too much noise are so bad that it should not be a good product to make a purchase of. I have heard good things of the GTX 460 but am not sure it can do good with a 30" LCD at high resolutions. I do not like ATI cards but like Nvidia but do not know what to do for purchasing choice. I would ask for help and opinions on what to do please. Thank you |

The GTX460 looks real good on my 25" I am not into gaming but I do watch movies with no stutter or any problems there. They are short compared to the other cards I have mine is about 9" only vs my 260's which are 11"

| Re: With GTX 480 so huge, hot, loud, what Nvidia card to get instead? GTX 460 good? I would say I have a GTX460 OC pailt and runs good and loud when required and then when it cools down the sound decibel goes down. I got it cause of reports of test I read and found it for around 236 with tax and I was like got to have it. Since newegg was close to 300 what I paid was a steal... |

| Re: With GTX 480 so huge, hot, loud, what Nvidia card to get instead? GTX 460 good? Yep just got to love those GTX 460's from Palit Microsystems as they do have a lot of bang for the buck and are quite a bit shorter than most other GTX460's coming in @7.40 inches in length vs. 9 inches for most of the other GTX460's on the market. Now as for SubZero's original question I would also suggest the Palit GTX460 or for a few dollars more and a little more kick go for the Palit GTX465 it is 8.9 inches in length and has 352 Processor Cores vs. 336 Processor Cores on the GTX460. Another viable alternative to the above is the Palit GTX460 with 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 memory for the same price as the GTX465 as of right now. If you don't mind 768MB of memory and 192bit memory interface then how about a Palit GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 768MB 192-bit GDDR5 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814261074 $169.99 Palit GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) Sonic Platinum Overclocking Edition 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 $239.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814261076 Palit GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) Sonic 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 $249.99 as of right now http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814261077 Palit GeForce GTX 465 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 $249.99 8.9 inches long http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814261072 Okay for $50.00 more you can get a 1280MB 320-bit memory interface 448 Processor Core 8.9 inch Palit GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 $299.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814261073 |

I have two CyberPowerPC systems now, one the AMD and one now the Intel. I get the eVGA GTX 460 OC 1 gig with GPU at 763, Mem at 950 and Shader at 1526, factory setting and have very good air cooling for system and for CPU, to avoid problem with not big enough CPU fan or enough System fan in AMD system. New system came with Window 7 Professional 64 bit and 12 gig 1600 RAM. Window XP was no longer downgrade option offered. I post another thread about problems with Nvidia driver in games using Windows 7 and seek help there. I think I made best value Nvidia choice, but am not sure if not AMD 5830 might be more stable and better working with Window 7. I hope to find assistance from fellow members regarding it. Thank you again for reply. SubZero | |
