| Hi. I had an old BENQ DW822A DVD-RW, which has served me well over the last few years. Suddenly, about a month ago, it stopped recognising DVD-Rs, showing them as full CDs instead. After checking the ROM was current and fiddling with everything I could, I decided that it had gone wrong and replaced it with a Phillips SPD6000FD (which turned out to be a rebranded Lite-On SHW-16H5S. Same problem, even after flashing the rom to the latest version (both as a Phillips and latterly as a Lite On). It's happy to record to CD, but I've tried a couple of different DVD R brands and it continues to show them as completely filled CDs. Any ideas about what might have gone wrong and how I could fix it? I've tried them on Windows XP home SP1 and Windows x64 beta with the same results on both. |

| This is the weirdest behaviour I've read about in terms of DVD drives. If it were me I'd back up my important files, format the HD and do a fresh Windows install. If the problem shows up again then something is wrong with the IDE interface on your MOBO, perhaps.
