| Re: Which is the better laptop, Sony or Toshiba? I know 3 people that had Sony laptops and all of them had problems, 2 major, 1 minor - memory stick slot was bad and wouldn't let Windows load . I personally like Toshiba loptops. But I have an HP laptop for work at it works great so far. I friend of mine bought one though and it blew up the second day he had it.

| Re: Which is the better laptop, Sony or Toshiba? I like both Toshiba and Sony laptops. Good build quality, stylish, well-balanced performance-wise. I think Toshiba is slightly better-designed and manufactured to more exacting standards. As far as support goes, I definitely prefer dealing with Toshiba to dealing with Sony. I used to be pretty biased against HP, but they actually do turn out a good product. Not engineered as well as some other manufacturers' machines, but they're sturdy, affordable, and even starting to look kinda slick.

| Re: Which is the better laptop, Sony or Toshiba? May I inquire why you don't consider Dell or IBM. IMO they are better than any of the ones you mentioned in terms of brand name atm. Of your choices though, Sony is usally all show but lack sperformance. I have only had one experience with a Toshiba and that had the HDD die quickly (less than 1 year) after purchase.

| Re: Which is the better laptop, Sony or Toshiba? @ xtacydima Why would you by like (at least) one year old laptop? Thinkpads are made by Lenovo nowdays :-p I'd recommend you to have a look at what Asus has to offer, they offer very good laptops to a very competitive price and they also have experience for making laptops to other large companies such as Apple. //Danne, happy W5F user. |

The deals for the Sony and Toshiba laptop I mentioned are good. As for as Dell, the similar laptop would be more expensive. The laptops in my price range would only have shared memory. The sony and toshiba are going for $899. As far as the sony memory stick, would that be a problem if the memory cards we use are SD Cards? I have a cannon didgatal camera that uses SD Cards. Or is that a non-issue? | |

| Re: Which is the better laptop, Sony or Toshiba? I use a lot of Sony gear...for compatibility maybe (but shouldn´t be a significant issue) This laptop has had a hard life...cooked the HD (but it was working at 100% in 38°C heat in the sun for an hour = my fault!), but replaced it under warranty and everything is fine. My IT buddy dropped a full bottle of beer on his...the bottle exploded...the laptop survived! He is using a mega-spec Toshiba now...but says he still prefers the Sony. They are both TOP machines...but as someone has said...why not check out the ASUS...I´ve heard plenty of good things about them too. If more money was available, I´d look for a higher spec´d Sony. ...or Toshiba
