Acer laptop battery calibration tool

Hello,
I have an Acer Aspire 5100 laptop that needs to have it's battery calibrated. Windows 7 64bit thinks that it runs out of juice after 10mins of use. However, if I hit the power button after it goes to standby, it will run with the battery at 0% for more than an hour.

What's the best way to do this? Is there a good free program?

Thanks in advance

Re: Acer laptop battery calibration tool

Isn't there one in the BIOS/Setup of your laptop?

Best effort to get a battery back to life is this:

1) Drain battery to 0%
2) Plug in the AC, and calibrate the battery in the BIOS
3) After calibration let the battery charge while the notebook is closed
4) After 30 minutes of charging turn on the laptop
5) Check battery wear %
6) Get happy or Sad depending on the results.

Hi,

what happens if you run a Live Linux system from CD or USB drive (USB drive is the better option)?
You might also install Battery Bar and see what is reported for the battery wear.

I won't recommend to drain the battery to 0% since LiIon batteries don't like that at all.

Re: Acer laptop battery calibration tool

Thank you both for your quick replies!
I went into the BIOS and did not see a calibration option. I did a google search and it seems that Acer is one of the only laptop manufacturers that does not include this function in their BIOS.

I installed a program called BatteryCare which seems to be a decent free program for providing battery info. It's telling me my battery wear is 73%. Ouch!

I am going to charge and discarge a few times to see if I can manually condition the battery.
