When I play my movie on my computer, the subtitle is normally like this:

Word Word Word Word Word Word .
Word Word Word Word Word Word .

But if I convert it to DVD with ConvertXtoDVD, it's like this:

Word Word Word Word
Word Word Word Word
Word Word Word .

Or:

Word Word
Word Word
Word Word
Word .

It's very odd, because the sentences aren't too long. I use Tahoma, 18,
that's the recommended. I don't want to use font size 16, because that's way
too small. With the other versions of DivxtoDVD I didn't have this problem.
I also tried it with many other movies and subtitles, but that still doesn't
work.

Thank you for your help.

I can't get the subtitles to work either on my Samsung M405. They work on my software player though. Yes I have turned the subs on with my remote.

I just ran the same file through Avi2DVD, and the subtitles come up perfectly, so I think there's some kind of compatability issue with ConvertX - the subs arn't being encoded correctly.

Yes I am using the latest 2.04 version. The file is Xvid. Subs are .SRT format. I've checked in the creation menu and the correct subs are selected (they show with edit from the menu).

Like I say, I can view the finished vobs on my PC and the subs are there, but after burning to a DVD (using Nero Burning Rom), they don't show on my standalone, even though I've enabled them on the remote and checked my TV's "subtitle pullup mode". I've tried a couple of times now.

Yes. It's not that though, because when I build the VOB files using Avi2DVD and then burn them to disc using Nero in exactly the same way, they work perfectly fine on my standalone player. I'm assuming that my software player is not being as strict on subtitle standards as my standalone and that's why it can show them. I'm guessing that Avi2DVD is making strictly compliant subs, whereas ConvertX is not.

hmm, xvid with .srt subs are no problem for me. I tried to convert a xvid file with 2 subtitle streams and my stanalone has no problem with it. I used ConvertX for burning.

standalone is a Cyberhome CH 405.
ConvertX version was 2.0.1 I guess, I may try 2.0.4 in the evening.

Even if they work for you, they are not working for me and others. I've tried several times, and ConvertX gets them wrong where other programs make them with no problems. Maybe you're stanalone has some workarounds for non-compliant sub streams?

Hi gaius baltar,

Have you been able to try reading the DVD in another DVD player?

Are you suggesting a problem with VSO Softwares subtitles, their compatibility with your Samsung M405?

Who else is having problems besides Woestebart? VSO really needs details in order to solve these problems.

We know there are somethimes player compatibility problems, and we have already been able to fix some when enough info is gathered (for example the green block problem is being resolved for certain players).

Thank you

Well what more details can I supply? Unfortunatly I don't have multiple standalone players hanging about to test with. I think a couple of people reporting a few days after a new release is something more than just someone forgetting to enable the subs. How many people even use subs at all? If you check over http://www.cdr-zone.com/forum/forum-27.html , you'll see a lot of subtitle problem threads.

As I said, the same conversions on the same hardware work perfectly when using other software, so it's something that the new 2.xx engine is doing.

The subs issue is annoying but I can use other software for that. What's more of a problem for me is the problem I mentioned in the other thread regarding aspect ratios and cropping, because that affects everything.
