RAW DAO or DAO/SAO for normal CD?

Alcohol Discuss, RAW DAO or DAO/SAO for normal CD? at Burning Software forum; When there is no protection on a CD I use the "Normal CD" preset in the write menu, but that changes the write mode to DAO/SAO. Is it better to change it back to RAW DAO? Thanks __________________ LiteOn SOHD-16P9S LiteOn LTR-48246S LiteOn LH-20A1H Plextor PX-W1210A Plextor PX-W2410A Plextor PX-712A

it should work the same either way. it's possible that a lot of it has to do with your hardware capabilities but with unprotected cds it doesn't matter.

If memory serves me right, this matter whether RAW should be prefered when burning non-proptected data has been discussed in the past also. There was actually a disagreement about this, since the guys at VSO state on their manual:

Quote:
“As DAO mode is clearly the best available, one could think that this mode should be used anytime. It may, but that's not the best. The complete technical issue is rather complex and out of the purpose of this user manual. In the facts, The DAO mode produces CD's with less readability than the SAO mode. For short, the data sent to the laser head is more accurately timed, and the power calibration of the laser head is more accurate with a SAO writing mode. That makes CD's easier to read, and sharper.
As a conclusion, if you know what's needed to reproduce a given CD (special subcodes or not), using SAO as often as possible is a better choice.”
Generally speaking though, as Netman already said, there should be no difference ..

As I said in the previous thread, I consider
these statements absurd, and VSO people are
welcome to the OSTD forum if they want to
show their arguments on this.

I really dont understand either why this should be so either - that's why i found this interesting while doing the BW review..

Maybe we can get Lapinou or someone else from the BlindWrite team to elaborate on this here or in the OSTD forum.
