Movie copy software Discuss, wrong subtitle in standalone player at Software forum; I'm having probs with the last 7 dvdrs I burned. The movies are Band of Brothers (5discs), Abandon (1) and ScoobyDoo (1). The problem is that the subtitles I've chosen during transcoding differ from the subtitles that show on my tv. For example, I've chosen dutch subs only with ifoedit

I'm having probs with the last 7 dvdrs I burned. The movies are Band of Brothers (5discs), Abandon (1) and ScoobyDoo (1).
The problem is that the subtitles I've chosen during transcoding differ from the subtitles that show on my tv. For example, I've chosen dutch subs only with ifoedit and when I put the DVD in my standalone player it shows english subs! This while I didn't even select the english subtitles. However my standalone player says it's the dutch subtitle it's showing. But it even gets stranger, when I put the DVDR in my pc it does show the dutch subtitles!!

This is how my backups have been created:
  1. Ripped the full contents of the original DVD using DVD Decryptor (latest version)
  2. Opened the movie-ifo in IfoEdit 0.95 and selected the subtitle I wanted plus the audiostream I wanted.
  3. Optional, I used DVD2One to decrease the total filesize so it would fit on 1 DVDR. (this was only the case with the BoB DVDR's.)
  4. Then I burned the whole thing using my Nec-1100 icw Nero 6's DVD-Video compilation.
My standalone players I've tested the DVDRs on are a Hiteker 1500 and a Yamaha S530.
Note I copied allot of other movies exactly the same way and I didn't had a prob with them at all!

Is there someone who can tell me what the ... I did wrong?

Perhaps you want to give DVD Shrink a go, which allows you to select the subtitle and sountrack, in addition to compression.

Ifoedit gives me the same options. The strangest thing is that it used to work just fine and now it doesn't anymore.

Hmmm... very strange indeed. So that's the only 3 DVD titles that are acting weird with the subtitles. I'll have to give scooby-doo a try.

Just tried Scooby again (DVDRW ) and I kept both subs, dutch and english. When I hit it in my pc, everything is fine. In the standalone I can also select both languages but both are english, so no dutch!

I still got the orig on my hd so I will start at the beginning again.

It isn't really worth deleting subtitles. What space you recover won't make a bit of difference to the quality of the video as they are too small. Only if you have 100 or more (unlikely!) would it start to make a difference.
Another reason for leaving them alone is that - as here - you can upset the logic of the DVD and get the wrong subs appearing.

I was thinking the same thing a few days ago, but even if I leave all subs on it, I still have the same prob.

Well, did some more testing and it seems that Ifoedit has something to do with it. When I just rip and run it through DVD2one and burn with Nero then everything works fine!

But still I find it strange that the (other) backups worked fine and these last movies didn't, although I didn't do a thing different!

I've had similar problems regarding removing some subtitles.

It seems that my dvd player does not recognize that subtitle track 1,2 and 7 exist.

I really have to put in all 7 subtitles just to get subtitle 7 present on my standalone dvd player.

If Windows Vista is the answer, how stupid must have been the question?
