Video/Audio sync issues when ripping DVD to divx I'm trying to rip movies and a few tv series to a file playable from an external hard drive to take to Iraq in a couple weeks. I've got ImToo DVD Ripper for PC and "DVD Ripper for Mac" on my mac. When ripping with either, the sound is getting skewed. From reading online it seems to be because the converters are using VBR for the audio, but I still can't seem to solve the issue. At the beginning the sound is nearly on, and by the end of a 45 minute episode it's off by 2-3 seconds. I can't find any programs for mac to adjust VBR to a fixed bitrate audio track, and I don't have the time or skill to go through and adjust the audio at multiple points on every file. I can't even figure out how to do it with the few sites I've been able to find with people having the same issues. Is there any way to disable the converter/rippers from using VBR by default so it just comes out right? If not, explain to someone with no clue about these things how to make it work right? I don't have room to carry DVDs over with me, so I'm hoping to figure this out quickly enough to convert about seven seasons of TV and several movies. Thanks for any help, it's GREATLY appreciated!

Re: Video/Audio sync issues when ripping DVD to divx You should look into Handbrake. There is a version for Mac and another for PC's. It is a very popular program for converting dvds to mp4 or H264. http://handbrake.fr/ You'll need to break encryption on newer movies with something...I suggest the free section of DVDFab, called DVDFab HD Decrypter. It will decrypt and rip the dvd-video to the hard drive, which you can then convert using Handbrake. DVDFab HD Decrypter will continue to function even after the trial for the main part of DVDFab expires. http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm

Re: Video/Audio sync issues when ripping DVD to divx I've got a program to rip the dvds to my hard drive, its encoding them that's my issue. I'll look into handbrake and see if I have any luck. You actually brought up another question I forgot to ask...would I have better luck trying to encode to a format other than divx?

Re: Video/Audio sync issues when ripping DVD to divx I strongly suggest getting DVDFab HD Decrypter and use it to rip your dvds as files to the hard drive. It is free and can handle virtually any of the newer protection schemes. It is also updated frequently. It will NOT encode as it rips. Using Handbrake you can convert to mpg4 using the xvid codec. Very similar to divx, and should work well for your purposes. I believe you can also use an .avi container file format if you need it. Another option is AutoGK, which can use divx or xvid and can output as avi. But development stopped a good while back on AutoGK. Give the DVDFab HD Decrypter-Handbrake combo a shot. I think it will do the job for you.

Re: Video/Audio sync issues when ripping DVD to divx No better luck with handbrake. Can't even get handbrake to function on my Macbook Pro. I tried AutoGK last year sometime and had the same issue. Why is audio syncing so impossible? You'd think these companies would realize an issue before they distributed their products.

| Re: Video/Audio sync issues when ripping DVD to divx You'd think people would read into stuff before complaining. AutoGK is developed my len0x, not a company. And yes, audio synching works perfectly fine on any of my rips (all of which use VBR audio). For a test, rip a single TV ep with DVD Fab and encode it in AutoGK (where you could easily select CBR) and see if it works.
