First, I hope this is the correct forum for this.
Second, the problem.

I downloaded an .AVI movie. I tried playing it in every player I have and it won't work in any of them. Everyone gives me the error "Your Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."

What's weird about this error is that the error box isn't clickable. It's like someone took a picture of the error box and made it sit in a soundless, 3 minute 'movie.' Pardon my lack of lingo, I hope I'm being clear enough. It plays this error in some 3 minute clip, but the file is 800 MB so there's gotta be the real movie in there somewhere.

So I Googled for an hour or so and tried a lot of different things. Ultimately, I downloaded AVIcodec and the program said this movie needs a Xvid mpeg-4 codec. So I downloaded the big K-lite codec which it seems has every codec in the world. After all these programs, the movie still won't work. What do I do? Thank you!

Download GSpot, see here: http://www.headbands.com/gspot/
See what codec is really being used. Then go looking on how to incorporate that codec into you player.

Ok I ran that and it says the video uses codec XVID, name Xvid 1.0.2, and that "Codec(s) are Installed"

So.... if it's installed, what's up with it?

See if you can play it in VLC. If VLC cannot play it, then something is wrong with the file.

Doesn't work in VLC. Is the file fixable?
