I use TMPGEnc Plus2.5 to convert to proper mpeg format . TMPGEnc DVD Author to make my Audio_TS/Video_TSfolders, then burn with Nero or DVD Author's built in burner.

Just check out the Tutorials. There are ones for AVI's to VCD, or SVCD or DVDR. The choice is yours.
