Version 3.1.1 - 11 Jan 2004
---------------------------
Disabled overlapped IO in UDF disc reader: this solves problems with "DVD Region Free" software.
Ensure all overlapped IO in generic file system code is aligned to sector boundaries.
Added option to enable/disable Nero in preferences.
Fixed bug where "deep analysis before backup" was forced on, even though no compression required.
Some modification to Nero initialization parameters, which solves problems when virtual cd-drive software is installed.
Set "system default renderer" to the default DirectX video renderer instead of VMR-9.
Added support for YUVY, YUY2 and YVYU directshow formats.
Don't eject burned DVD if "shutdown when complete" was selected.
Fixed crash when opening IC8 generated DVDs. They still cannot be opened however.
Modified text of "set toolbar buttons" dialog, so people don't think it is wallpaper.

on 2 machines here at home one xphome and one xppro i deleted version 3.1 and installed 3.1.1 now i keep getting the "new programs installed" when i mouse over my program menu.
i can uncheck windows showing new programs listed via windows start menu properties but if i recheck it it just comes back.
this after opening it about 50 friggin' times too.
so i remove 3.1.1 from add/remove programs and install 3.1 and this issue does not happen.
then tried re-installing 3.1.1 again this time over the top and same darn thing, opening my start manu on either machine shows "new programs installed".
anyone else?

BTW, development of dvdshrink has ceased. No worries though bug fixes will still happen along with translations.

thanx for the help mr bass but it has absolutely nothing to do with spyware.
maybe you are misunderstanding my post...there are no new programs other than dvdshrink 3.1.1 and i will assume you are not saying it (dvdshrink) is spyware, right?
thankfully i am computer literate enough to never have had that type of problem.
this seems to me a registry key that tells windows XP a new program is installed so it can be highlighted (in tan color) on the start menu is triggered and not being changed after program is opened the 3 or 4 times it usually takes for the highlighting of it on start menu to stop on its own.
this has never happenned before and is related to this latest "bug fix" release.
thanx -

xp-antispy isn't like spybot or ad-aware....more of a tweaking program. Sorry I only use win2000 so XP is over my head. See this thread.

Version 3.1.3 - 18 Jan 2004
Added support for RGB 16-bit and 24-bit video preview (for really old video cards).
Fixed possible crash during video preview initialization.
Added preference options for overlapped I/O and read block size, this may increase ripping performance on some systems.
Changes to Nero initialization parameters which caused excessively slow read speeds on some configurations.
Added Nero burn options: write speed, book type and DVD+R/RW high compatibility mode switch.
Fixed "no default audio" and "no default subpicture" options in re-author mode. These are the default selection. In this case the DVD player determines which streams to play.
Fixed bug where deep analysis could still be forced on.
Increased maximum compression to same level as 3.0b5.
Fixed bug which prevented opening of individual IFO files (can do this by dropping IFO file into DVD Shrink main window, use with caution because unless you open a VIDEO_TS.IFO file the output will not be a complete DVD -

Appears to be something of an update.
From the author:
DVD Shrink version 3.1.4 contains an updated ripping engine, designed to extract maximum performance from your drive, while at the same time reduce wear and tear.
(It will not increase ripping performance for those of you suffering from a bad Nero/drive combination).
The updated ripping engine is in effect during analysis and encoding. All reads from your DVD drive take place on a separate buffered thread, so DVD Shrink can rip and encode simultaneously.
If your computer is powerful enough to process data as fast as it can be read, then ripping should never slow down: the light on your drive will remain permanently lit, and maximum data throughput should be achieved. If your computer is not so powerful, or your drive is very fast, then the ripping thread will occasionally pause to give the encoder a chance to catch up. The light on your drive should blink slowly on and off.
Previous versions of DVD Shrink behaved rather differently, running in a tight rip-encode-rip-encode cycle which depending on your drive and operating system configuration, may have increased wear and tear on your drive, or prevented ripping at the maximum rate it is capable of.
If any of you have time to spare, please let me know if the new engine is working as intended by posting before-and-after analysis/encoding rates (KB/s) to this thread (since I have not been able to test the code on a large number of machines).
