Hi everyone!

So i decided to get the NEC 3500, and successfully backed up my first DVD with DVD X Copy Platinum.

When I played the disc back on my Ancient DVD player (Sony S360) and my newest one (Philips 642), they worked flawlessly (I was worried about the whole bitsetting thing on a +R disc, but it works LIKE A CHARM without it!

Anyway, when I played back the backed up copy, I get a 'DVD BACKUP' warning message, inserted by the DVD X copy Platinum software.

Is there a way that I can remove this messages before I back up more? Or should I use other software? All software recommendations are greatly appreciated (if that's what i need to do). THANKS!!

321 studios put that message in their software knowing that people will try and tweak around to remove it. I doubt there's a way to get it removed. You're better off just using DVD Shrink, Nero Recode or Pinnacle Instant Copy. If you use Nero Or Pinnacle you'll need a program to rip the DVD first, such as DVD Decrypter.

I'd say DVD Shrink is the best all round for copying DVD's. It Decrypts the DVD and burns it to a blank DVD in one. But best of all, it's free!

Yes, I used to use DVD X Copy but that message used to give me the shits so I switched to DVD Shrink and haven't looked back. The quality is great too....by the way, there is a way to remove that message but it is prob illegal so I will not tell you where to find it but I am sure if you googled it you will find the answer as I have seen it before......I never bothered using it however as someone put me onto DVD Shrink.

For a guide that will produce the best possible quality look at Chickenmans' DVD to DVD+-R guide on these forums:

there WAS some method to remove the backup message but i don't have a link on me. however, i consider dvdxcopy to be virtually obsolete anyway. going with dvdshrink is probably a much better idea.

Yup, IMHO DVD X COPY was a convenient tool for noobs who couldn't be bothered to spend 10-15 minutes, how to use a better program. I had the program for a while and it gave me more coasters in 20 burns than DVD Shrink has given me in 175 burns (about 5 with X COPY and 0 with DVD Shrink). The lame backup warning and additional copy protection on backups were just rediculous and the regular X COPY Program had compatibility issues with my XBOX. Xpress was a definite improvement but it still had the issues listed above and very limited options for what you could do with your projects. That and when you use the additional quality enhancements in Shrink there is a world of difference in the picture quality. For movies that require high compression (ie over 30% reduction in quality) X COPY, would do a pretty good job but it would start to look grainy with higher levels of compression and the color would be slightly faded. With the latest quality enhancements in DVD Shrink, that isn't even an issue. The Deep Analysis with the additional "Sharp" enhancement produces amazing results. DVD Shrink is unquestionably one of the best freeware programs ever released.
