I am sincerely hoping that this may help the author, or me, if someone can understand them. Since I cannot submit the jpg images, I will try to explain.

I have converted a DivX video to DVD using NeroVision 2.1.0.4 (current December release). This created a menu for me with chapter points. This works great, no problems. However, I decided that I would like to use Nero Recode to select and merge different parts of the video, and came up with errors and Nero Recode freezing. So, I went to the source of DVD Shrink. Here's what is happening. In DVD Shrink (v3.0 b5)selecting the main DVD Navigation file (Menu Items) "VIDEO_TS.IFO", I received this error "Program Error-Impossible State Occurred, The Reason is: Unknown". Using DVD Shrink (v3.1.2) I received this error "Invalid DVD Navigation Structure." I believe the second error is correct and I will explain 'why' shortly. Since this failed, I moved on t0 check the title file, or 2nd DVD Navigation file "VIDEO_TS_01_0.IFO" using v3.0 b5 and the program executed just fine, or course with no Menu, just main title. Again, using v3.1.2, I received this error "Invalid Filename."

Nero Recode responds much in the same manner as DVD Shrink v3.0 b5, but the program freezes with the error of "impossible program state occurred." HOWEVER, all of the programs seem to work fine with real DVD files, just not the ones you create by using NeroVision from other video files(avi's, mpeg's, etc..). BUT, (there's always a BUT), so to explain the 'why' comment above, the last think I tested was another DivX file using NeroVision again to create a new DVD. I allowed it to create the menu, but did not have it create any chapter points this time. Guess what???? Each and every program (Nero Recode, and both versions of DVD Shrink) worked flawlessly. They all opened the title menu 'VIDEO_TS.IFO', and the main title 'VIDEO_TS_01_0.IFO'

So this comes down to programming. Please understand this is not a complaint, but some trouble shooting to the author, if he hasn't already figured out the problem. I am technicial, but not nearly enough with DVD video structures and how they completely work. I haven't programmed in about 15 years, so my coding is well rusted shut.

I am unable to see any work arounds at this point, other than not creating chapter points with NeroVision. Any suggestions from this forum would be greatly appreciated. I also hope that this will help the many who have encountered the same problems, but could not put there finger on it, or could not describe it.

Just to caveat this information: working with actual DVD files, the programs all work great. Somewhere in the NeroVision creation process adding chapter points has a tendancy to provide the wrong DVD Navigation information for DVD Shrink (aka Nero Recode) to work correctly. When NeroVision adds the chapter points it creates several additional menus with each chapter point (I think this could be the problem, and can be a waste, if unwanted). I like having chapter points, but do not necessarily need all the additional menus, unless specified.

Thank You for your time in reading this., Larry Butler

"I have converted a DivX video to DVD using NeroVision 2.1.0.4" your assuming NeroVision makes compliant files. I think you should be complaining to Ahead actually.

I actually wrote the post in hopes of getting the author of DVD shrink's attention as he now works for Nero. Maybe he can help them bring NeroVision closer to the compliance issues as this will help DVD Shrink and Nero Recode to be what they are intended to be. In Version 3.1.2 of DVD Shrink, the program is pretty much right on witht he exception of not reading the 'VIDEO_TS_01_0.IFO correctly, which v3.0b5 reads correctly. So I find issues with both parties, but again not any major complaint, just some simple troubleshooting to the program authors.

    Cheers
