I saw that someone else posted on here about DVD Shrink...I'm hoping someone could help me. I just got a new computer system, and I'm using the same version (3.2) and everything, but for some reason, I can't do TV series anymore. The discs are in perfect condition, but I'm getting a cyclic redundancy check error...sometimes at 1%, sometimes at 7% and sometimes at 12%. It "opens disc" fine, but when I go to back up, it just won't work. Any thoughts?

Probably some type of encryption or other copy protection.
Depending on where you have the TV series can you run it through DVDFab first?
If not that try AnyDVD while using DVDShrink.
Or rip the TV series with AnyDVD then load it in DVDShrink.

Unfortunately Dvd Shrink can't handle today's Dvds, because it's no longer updated. An option would be DvdFab.

That's strange...I was able to do 24 and Lost with DVD Shrink, and most of my movies (though I guess my movies are a bit older). This DVDFab...can you get it for free? And is it fairly simple? I'm not very good with this kind of stuff so if possible I want a program that I just have to run the movie through once...

There is a trial version of DVDFab which after 30 days becomes a limited free version.
The free version is not a simple "once through".
Read beef barley's:
Dvd to movie only backup, Posts #67 to #74, but please also read, Posts #77 & #78.
As he suggested.

Sorry for seeming so stupid, you both seem to really know what you are talking about. I went and read those posts but they really confused me, DVDFab has always confused me (probably why I didn't use it) Seems like there are a lot of steps...

Maybe someone can explain to me why before I was able to just pop in one of those TV shows and DVDShrink would do it all, with two clicks, and now it can't? As far as I know I'm not trying to rip something any newer than what I was doing before.

Is there anyone here who wants to take pity on someone who is really easily confused by this stuff? Because I'm happy to attempt it using that guide from beefbarley, but since the trial period doesn't last long, if I'm getting nowhere I would love to have some help so I dont' end up wasting my trial period I don't know why I'm so bad at this stuff but I don't even have any friends or anything who can help....I know the most and that's pretty sad. But at least I am willing to admit when I don't have a clue what I'm doing!

The free section of DVDFab, called DVDFab HD Decrypter, will remain functional even after the trial for the main part of DVDFab expires.
Here's what to do. Rip to the hard drive with DVDFab HD Decrypter as files.
Open the resulting files with DVDShrink and do your normal process.

It requires a bit more space, and an extra step, but after DVDShrink finishes, you can just delete the large files you ripped with DVDFab HD Decrypter.

Thank you very much I'm ripping right now using HD Decrypter...not exactly sure where the files will go though or what I'm supposed to do with them with regards to DVD Shrink once it's done....that's one thing I need to avoid, having files going all over the place. Brand new system and I want to keep the harddrive fairly free, so I need to know where everything is so once I've got my copy I can delete

DvdFab HD Decrypter by default will save to the same place everytime. You can also tell it to save to a different location on the same drive or another drive for that matter. Using Target & browse to where you want each saved. What are you ripping right now, an episodic Dvd or Movie Dvd?

Episodic movie (TV series)...just finished and kicked out the DVD...

Edited to add: It would appear (though I'm not done yet) that I don't need to do an extra step...is that normal? Nero seems to be happily getting ready to burn the disc now, so assuming it works, I'm not sure where DVD Shrink fits into the equation because I didn't even use it...

Are you burning to a single layer blank disc or a dual layer blank disc? How big is the file? Bottom left hand corner of DvdFab main page, does it say Dvd5 or Dvd9?

Then you have just by accident found out that DvdFab can be a one step program, it compressed it for you. Now you can play it & judge the quality for yourself. Might I suggest giving ImgBurn a try for burning, look in my sig.

Be aware that the compression done by DVDFab is part of the commercial section of DVDFab....so once the trial is through, you'll only be able to rip to the hard drive with DVDFab HD Decrypter, not compress anything. Unless you decide to buy the program of course.

That makes sense, thanks! I think the quality looks fine....but it's also not compressing very much by the looks of it. And I'm not too picky with my TV shows. So just to make sure I understand, once the trial is up, I can rip the same way...but then I would have to run it through DVD Shrink basically to compress it before I burn it? Is that right?

To explain it a bit better DVDFab after the trial will be the free version DVDFab HD Decrypter.
Right now it will do the compression to DVD5.Then it will only rip to DVD9 .
You will need DVDShrink or any program that will compress the DVD9 to DVD5.
