Check your disc for dirt/scratches and use a more up to date ripper such as DVDFab HD Decrypter.

I got the same error with DVD Fab HD Decrtypter and only then tried DVD Decrypter. I think you're right about the condition of the disc.

I would return it for a replacement then...good luck and happy burning.
