| Re: Convert a avi movie file to a dvd format I don't know about the best. One of the simplest programs that I've used is VSO's ConvertX to DVD. If you don't mind a watermark, you can use it for free. http://www.vso-software.fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/ |

| Re: Convert a avi movie file to a dvd format I use SVD2toDVD to convert avi movies to DVD format. Does the entire job including burning the DVD if you wish. Also allows for combining several avi movies into one.

| Re: Convert a avi movie file to a dvd format ok, now I understand ![]() You can use TMPGenc to convert avi in mpeg and then you need an authoring software to convert mpeg in vob (tmpgenc dvd author for example). Nerovision can do this conversion in one step. |

| Re: Convert a avi movie file to a dvd format ConvertX to DVD does burn to DVD (one step). I'm guessing that most of these types of programs will do that now. The multiple steps was a reason I had never got into this part of the market. Again, ConvertX to DVD can be used for free if you don't mind the watermark. I'm always impressed with programs that have free-use options. |

I convert my avi files with DVD Santa, when it has finished converting, it asks if you wish to burn the disc now or later, if you wish to burn it at the time, just pop your dvd in the drive and its really as simple as that!

In my testing of AVI to DVD products, it was the better one in quality. To be fair, I had older versions of some of the other programs. I have a 48" rear-projection screen and the quality was decent. One complaint might be text. It turns a little whiter (like color bleed). I did a quicky comparison of the AVI vs the burned DVD... I got the size pretty close. The TOP image is the DVD, the BOTTOM image is the AVI. (Click on thumbnail for larger version) I did not use the internal burning function. I converted it and dropped it onto the other computer with the DVD burner.

| Re: Convert a avi movie file to a dvd format I did a test. Same AVI, using WinAVI Video Converter v7.6. I like WinAVI. It converts to a bunch of formats, seemed simple to use. Not a lot of setup required. Using default options WinAVI only took 25-30 minutes. The picture looked virtually like the original file. I changed what I think is the quality to highest, and it still only took ~30 minutes. Default settings: The problem, like other programs, the audio does not sound good. It is very stuttery throughout the whole thing. Other programs played fine on the computer but stuttered a bunch when played on a standalone DVD player. This one was stuttery on the computer. I played with some audio settings, (Checked) Enable MPEG2 DVD Audio and (unchecked) Use Built In Decoder, now it plays fine on the computer. Haven't burned it to DVD yet. |
