Re: Any better rippers than DVDFab?

@ Wombler , While still in the "Full" function trial period .
Using DVD Copy Full Disc & compressing to DVD 5.
I then used the write with ImgBurn function within DVDFab.
I wrote to a DVD +RW SL disc & played this on my standalone.
I didn't see a watermark .
Is the watermark easily visible ?
Anyone have an example that I could look at ?

Nero Info Tool doesn't show the 'Provider ID' but both PGCEdit & DVDShrink did. Is that what you used to check this.
Both of those showed this (FAB8130) .

I don't use DVDFab for compression so I haven't seen this myself but I'm reliably informed that the DVDFab icon appears on screen in the top left corner, at certain points during playback.

Regarding the 'Provider ID', I wasn't aware that you could view in DVDShrink but I had discovered this a couple of years ago using PgcEdit.

BTW there's also the 'DVD-TEXT General Name' field which is displayed by certain standalone players but DVDFab doesn't alter this.

Re: Any better rippers than DVDFab?

I will be watching another movie tonight that was done the same as the one in post#36 except this one was done "Main Movie" .
I will be watching the top left corner better now that I know where to look.

I knew PGCEdit displayed this . IFOEdit can too if you know where to look.
This is where DVDShrink shows the provider ID :

Re: Any better rippers than DVDFab?

Yeah there are probably numerous programs that allow you to view the 'Provider ID' and judging by that screen shot DVDShrink would seem to alow you to alter it as well.

I you manage to get that watermark to appear though could you post a screen capture as I haven't been able to find any pictures of this online.

As far as I'm aware it's encoded into the video so once you've found it it's just a case of playing the same section in a software player and taking a screen capture.

Re: Any better rippers than DVDFab?

I didn't see it in the one I watched last night.
I guess I could have looked away sometime in the movie but if the watermark is there it doesn't show long or many times.
I'm going to give it one more try with a different movie. For compressing.
Then I'm giong to try a conversion with DVD Ripper .
If I see the watermark then I will post it.
I'm watching the movies on a 46 inch wide screen TV .

My posting about the watermark seems to have started an 'In-depth investigation', oh well gives one something to do I guess.

It would be pretty obvious in fact there'd be no point in having it otherwise.

And thanks for testing this as I for one appreciate your efforts.

Re: Any better rippers than DVDFab?

I decided to use DVD Ripper section of DVDFab to create an .MKV file of a movie. The trial version on my older computer .
This is a picture of the watermark that is present during a lot but not all of the .MKV . If this is what DVDFab is supposed to be putting when it does compressing rips to SL with DVD Copy I haven't seen it in two movies so far.

I'm going to be watching the last one I'm going to do during the trial period tonight. It will be a Full Disc rip compressed to SL .
I'm burning it with my newer computer & just ImgBurn ( DVDFab not on) .
This is to use a different burner . I don't expect to see a water mark .

When the trial is over I will rip a DVD with DVD Copy to test .
At that point DVDFab will no longer compress though & is not supposed to water mark. So that will be to make sure. I will compress it with DVDRebuilder & burn it with ImgBurn . I don't expect to see a water mark then either.

Re: Any better rippers than DVDFab?

Excellent, thanks for that!

It's pretty obvious too.

The watermark is encoded in the video so just ripping with DVDFab won't insert the watermark.

Wombler & SJ , your both welcome .

It is only with the DVD Ripper function converting to another format(I just picked .MKV) that had the watermark .
None of the DVD Copy compressions have had the watermark . I checked the folder on my computer with VLC & MPC-HC , Then I burned to a SL +RW to play on my standalone . I did this with three different movies .
As far as I'm concerned DVDFab doesn't put a watermark on DVDFab compression to DVD5 during the trial period .

I didn't burn to a DL disc since I didn't want to waste one . The DVD9 rip played without a watermark from the folder on my computer . So I think it also doesn't have the watermark.

Now I will wait till the trial expires & then try a DVD9 rip since that is all DVDFab will do then. If that doesn't have a watermark then we will know for sure .

One of the reasons I wanted to test this is most members here recommend DVDFab free as a free alternative for ripping DVD's. I didn't want to do that any longer if it had a watermark .

If anyone has had different results & has had a watermark using DVDFab DVD Copy I would like them to post it with image.

Yeah I think people are getting confused with DVD ripping and DVD Ripper.

I've always thought that was a very misleading choice of name for the mobile component.
