I have 2 60 gig hard drives on the primary IDE channel
The burner is an LG GSA-4040B and it is the master on the secodary IDE channel and there isn't anything else on that channel.

My burner is set to Multi Word DMA mode 2 and I can't seem to get it to ultra DMA no matter what I try. I did everything recommended in this thread
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread....5&pagenumber=1

So I installed my burner on another computer we have in the house, an 1100 Celeron, Asus m/b (not sure what model) and the burner was set at ultra mode DMA this time but the problem was worst on this computer. The device buffer would drain and refill at a much faster rate and the burner couldn't even burn at a steady 2X this time.

What can be the problem? I'm at wits end trying to get this burner to burn at a steasy 4X.

This could be a defragmentation problem.

Defragment all your drives. If it takes too much time. Create a partition dedicated to recording and any time you rip a dvd, format the partition before ripping.

The best way to get 0% defrag is to rip to one partition, and after that create an image to the recording partition.

About the Multi Word DMA mode 2, this is your Motherboard limitation, nothing to do with the writer.
