Thank you in advance for any advice you may have for me. I have an older DELL laptop that I bought second hand, I'm using Windows XP 32 bit. I have the DVD/RW listed in the title. I tried to open it today to install a new printer (its not plug and play of course) and it wouldn't open by pushing the button, I finally looked it up in control panel and clicked eject to open it. Now it won't read the CD. The trouble shooter says its working properly, the driver update says there are no new drivers, I've unistalled it twice, rebooted, and windows reinstalled it....it opens now when I push its lil button, but it still won't read the CD. I tried the CD in my neices computer, it works fine. Any ideas?

    Hi and Welcome!

In case the drive does spin up after having inserted a disc, then there could be a problem with the drive's laser system. At first, I would try to carefully clean the lens and see if things improve.
