sony dru500ax and apex ad-1010w/ad-1110w using +r/+rw media

CD and DVD Writers Discuss, sony dru500ax and apex ad-1010w/ad-1110w using +r/+rw media at Computer Hardware forum; i can burn and play +rw media in the apex players above just fine but, when i try to play the same movie burned from the same iso on +r media the player complains with something like no media. has anyone else experienced this? is there a fix?
