Software for testing on Nec 2500A
CD and DVD Writers Discuss, Software for testing on Nec 2500A at Computer Hardware forum; Hi Since Kprobe doesn't work on Nec writers, I was wondering which software I could use for testing DVD media on a 2500A. Another point, for using Kprobe I need a Liteon writer , I can't test with a Liteon reader , don't I ? Thanx for you help.

you can use nero tools: cd-dvd speed to get a moderate picture of your writer, in it it also has pi/pif testing. may it a bit help to you.
CD DVDSpeed does not support NEC drives in the PI/PIF/jitter tests. Currently no consumer software supports Nec drives for PI/PIF reading. The only thing you can use is the Scandisc check that should give you an overview of good, damaged and unreadable sectors. It's not much, but it's better than nothing, when combined with a read speed graph. Beware though that some people have defective Nec 2500/2510 units and have trouble reading back burns that seem to be perfectly ok on all other dvd-rom/burners/rack dvd players. So, if the disc doesn't play back / scan well in Nec 25x0 unit, it's not necessarily a sign that the disc is unusable.
