| Which reader? I'm in the market for a new DVD-ROM drive. In the past I've used Sony DDU1613 drives. These were not bad, reflashed with firmware that removed riplock they were decent readers. However, I feel it's time to move to something new. What are some drives I should consider, that are readily available? I'm not seeing much at NewEgg/etc. I don't rip movies/audio very often but I want the drive to be able to read a data disc as fast as it can read the disc. I look forward to your recommendations.

| Re: Which reader? Since you already have a BenQ DW1640, I'll limit my recommendations to DVD-ROMs only: - Sony DDU1615 (much better than the 1613) / LiteOn 16P9S / Teac DV-516G / NEC DV-5800D (these four drives are all identical except for the brand label) (with the low price of the 16P9S--it was going for $20 shipped just a month ago at newegg--this seems to be the favorite) - AOpen 1648/AAP (slightly slower, but still a fine drive)

| Re: Which reader? I second the vote for the Liteon. I know Liteon is starting to make drives for NEC, possibly the 5800 is one of the first.
