I had the same problem (Travelmate 4000WLMi) and QSI SDW-082, FW LX34
Now, using the new firmware LX43 the drive can recognize media that never recognized before and the number of error burning DVDs (DVD-R, DVD-RW) has been drastically reduced, I would say to zero.
Still doing experiments but it SEEMS much better then before...

I tried the firmware upgrade but failed (error 911, contact your vendor)
Any ideas?

Well, I launched the executable from windows, it started then stayed at three quarter of its scale for an eternity (seconds...), then it said "finished upgrading, now you must reboot in order for changes to take place" (or something similar).
That's all...

I had that problem too. Disable all virtual drives before doing the upgrade.

i had a new acer aspirev 1680 delivered yesterday and i didn't realise i needed this but i have gne now from version 34 to Shortcut to Shortcut to c43 hopefully i wont have any problems before i even start.

Do you have any virtual drives enabled (from alcohol or daemon tools or nero)?
If so, remove/disable them before upgrading

I have tried it with verbatim DVD+R DL and Nero 6.6.0.8 and had an expensive coaster; does not burn Fuji DVD-RW neither with Nero nor with NTI CD/DVD-Maker (tried verbatim with fw34 and fuji -rw with both fw34 and fw43); didn't try any other media so far. Audio- and data-CD-burning is o.k. (Acer Extensa 3002WLMi). No support from QSI or Acer, no information about compatible media; obviously one of the worst burners.

This thread was about the QSI DVD+-RW SDW-082 not the QSI DVD+-RW SDW-082S. Those are two different drives!!!!!!!!

I'm about to purchase a laptop for my sister soon and I'm very displeased by the fact that I can't chose all the parts of it 1 by 1. I would definetely buy the NEC slim DVD-RW if I could, but I can't. The stock will most probably be this QSI. When I get the laptop, whatever the DVD-RW is, I'll post I'll benchmark what it does and will post the results.

yay! thanks alot, just flashed this on my acer extensa 2304wlmi which has that drive. it now recognises (already written) media which it didn't before flashing didn't try burning yet, though...

Hi, I have Acer TM 4101 with QSI DVD+-RW SDW-082. I had fw LX34 and I had same problem. DVD which I burn, I couldn't read. Others DVD I read without problems. I used this fw LX43 before moment. It didn't help me. I have still this problem and DVD is rotating in mechanik very fast (very noisy) and not slow down. Only after open DVD mechanik. Shortly, QSI DVD+-RW SDW-082 is more problematic then before.

Can anybody help me please?

Only Acer can get other firmwares from QSI, but I doubt they'll do it.
Then again, if many customers ask for it... Who knows?

Hi! I have another problem. The device is NOT working proparly after upgrading to LX43. Burning is fine, but I can read the discs only half of the time. Discs I could read just fine before the upgrade. Browsing the folders is no problem (but i take a lot of time to read the disc so I can start browsing), but to read a media-file only works about half of the time. Cant even copy the files to my harddisc. But sometimes with a reboot, its just fine again.

Can someone help me?

Hi. I have a big problem with my QSI DVD+-RW SDW-082. If i burn dvd-r my home dvd can't read this, if i burn with dvd+r my home dvd read fine. My home dvd just doesn't read dvd-r burned by my QSI DVD+-RW SDW-082.

Hello to everyone,

I would like to ask you for some help.
I have NU DVD+-RW SDW-082 drive with firmware version LX40 (It's upgraded from Philips SDVD8431 some version :-) ).
When I try to upgrade to QSI LX43 firmware it says than I can't upgrade because firmware is not supported for that drive (or something like that).

If anyone knows how to upgrade this thing please let me know,

You already know the answer.. though it seems similar, the firmware is for QSI drive not for the NU one.

Hi, I just bought a acer laptop, and it has this "famous" burner too.

QSI DVD+-RW SDW-082

I solved a lot of problems upgrading the firmware from LX34 to LX43, but i still have problem, the burner takes almost 5hours to burn a dvd!!!
My old acer was a ferrari comparing to fhis new one.
(i'm using nero 6.6.0.3)
Any Ideas??
