Russia threatens to block Youtube for copyright violations

Russia threatens to block Youtube due to videos that violate copyrights, according to Roskomnadzor, a government organisation responsible for overseeing the media. TNT Network filed a complaint with Youtube about videos that showed episodes of a TV series. The videos were removed by Youtube, as the video website normally does when it's made aware of a copyright violation.

Videos with several TV series of TNT Network appeared on Youtube again in July, in total 137 movies. After filing another complaint with Youtube on the 20th of July, the video site hasn't removed the videos (yet).

Roskomnadzor has provided a deadline to Youtube, the videos should be offline by the 27th of July, else the videos will be blocked by internet providers. The organisation warns that also the entire Youtube site can become blocked.

Youtube hasn't responded to the threat and has 4 days to delete the 137 videos.
