philips dvd r824p problem

| Hello, Just to start off, I know very little about dvd hardware so please forgive the lay message. Ive got a philips dvd r824p dvd reader and recorder. It has been working fine up until now. |The drive appears in explorer but it does not seem to read any dvd's. Im looking for advice on what trouble shooting avenue to pursue, eg: is it a hardware or software problem? ANd what steps I can take to solve the problem. Id really appreciate any help, I dont know where to begin  Thanks B |

| Try a bootable cd or dvd on it and boot up.
