Are most BR movies 25GB or 50GB? Or is it mixed?

I do not have a BR drive for my PC yet. I would like to start backing up BR's, but am curious if most commonly are 25GB or 50GB. I know for DVD's that pretty much 99% of them are DL, so for a good quality backup you need a DVD-R DL. BR SL's are affordable now (still pricey though) but the DL's are not really.

Most Blu-ray movies today are in 50GB discs. You can check almost all titles here: http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=3338

Re: Are most BR movies 25GB or 50GB? Or is it mixed?

Question: First off thanks for the link to the chart. I am assuming that covers everything on the disc. My question is, being in the market for a burner for back-ups, if one does not back-up all the extras and only backs up the actual movie, menu and English lossless audio track, will many of these fit onto a single layer BD-R? How much space to the movie and English lossless track take in general (without all of the extras)?

Re: Are most BR movies 25GB or 50GB? Or is it mixed?

You can check that link, the column "Movie Size" is the main movie only but includes all audio and video/Picture in picture streams.

In general DTS-HD MA and DolbyTrue HD will take 4-6GB depends on the length of movie. AC3 about 500MB, and DTS about 800MB - 1GB.

So for example, according to that link, "Eagle Eye" movie only is ~33GB including DolbyTrue HD. Even if you rid DolbyTrueHD or downcovert to AC3, it will be around 26-29GB which will not fit into BD-R.

most movies are on 50GB disc, but if you rip the movies from the disc, actual movies with single audio tracks are usually under 25gb
