Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

finally got it working, was using the unscrambled exe files on codeguys, turns out I had to read flash using flashutil and mod the bin file instead.

Hi,

I have checked the firmware for LG BH10LS38 for Media Codes, but it does not work. The message says "Displaying the media code list is not avaliable yet for this LG firmware". Drive Speed and RC2 patch works, but no Media Codes...

Any chance to get the list of Media Codes from the firmware extracted?
I am starting to purchase a lager number of media (25 & 50 GB) and need to verify the right ones for this burnner.

Thank you for your support!

With kind regards
Joe

PS.: I have extracted the firmware with flasher ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/flasher/files/ )

Upload it. I have a 1.00-D2 firmware, so your media list might differ.

Thank you very much for the fast and great support!

Now I can buy the right (big) lot of media for my drive.

With kind regards

Be aware that being listed in the media code list does not mean good burning results.

I always verify and test my burnnings - but knowing the media code is a good start for sucessfull burnnings - right?

With kind regards

All too true. My HP 1270i(t) burned MBIPG101 R10-065 discs with no problem at all - unfortunately, it just died (doesn't register ANY discs blank or not, so it's getting RMA'd). In the meantime, I thought I'd just get a 1260i(t) from BB (they don't carry the 1270 anymore). Before burning, I checked the firmware's codes and it DOES include the MBIPG101 R10-065, but I could only burn SOME of the time at 4x - but it basically made 5 out of 6 coasters (Memorex branded). Very strange, since they *should* be the same drive, just minus the LightScribe feature.

It's hard to believe I seem to be the ONLY person having problems with this specific media code

Usual verify doesnt mean much.

Try quality scanning the discs.

Yep, Quality Scanning is a good idea, BUT: I have no software for Blue Ray - Nero and other only support CD-R and DVD-R for quality scanning.

Do you have a software for Blue Ray Quality Scanning?

With kind regards
Joe

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

You first need a capable drive, like one from Liteon.

I'm trying to use MCSE to patch firmware for my Samsung SE-S084F drive for RPC1 firmware. I see this isn't in the supported list of drives so, perhaps what I'm describing is the expected behaviour and not a problem.

I've downloaded the latest firmware from the Samsung website and extracted the .bin file using 7zip. Loading it with MCSE doesn't show any error message but, no media codes are shown and the interface (like the RPC1 patch check box) all stays greyed out. Is this because my drive isn't supported or, is there something I can do to get it to work for this drive (for an RPC1 patch)? Any help much appreciated.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

The media codes are not displayed because the media table is stored compressed in the firmware. The RPC code if different enough so the auto find does can not locate it.

I guess I'm out of luck then as far as using MCSE to patch this firmware for RPC1, right?

Right, currently I have no time for the RPC1 patch.

I just wanted to check that there wasn't some way of getting this to work without extra development work from you, because I wasn't sure you were saying there wasn't from your last post. Looks like a really nice tool for the drives that are supported.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

Hi guys!

I have a problem with MCSE. When I try to load the firmware, no media code list is shown.

I have a Liteon iHas624B GL29 - modded with iXtreme Burner Max. I tried to load:

1) Original GL29.EXE
2) Original GL29 bin dump
2) modded firmware bin dump

S.O: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

MCSE works fine with GL29. Post the original GL29 bin dump you used.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

Posting here in the general thread as it seems the one updated more frequently.
Please pardon my complete ignorance of these matters, I'm trying to understand more how this all works so I would apreciate some further explanations.

I own a NEC ND-3520A 1.04
Appearently it's unable to write audio CDs at speeds under 8x with its current firmware, and this is an issue for the CD drive I have in my car.
A friend pointed out the firmware modification through MediaCodeSpeedEdit as a possible solution.

I dumped my drive's fw with binflash and opened it with MediaCode, but at this point I'm stuck wondering what to do next
  1. It only shows data concerning DVD discs. Does this mean that I won't be able to change data concerning CDs with this software?
  2. Previously I always assumed that the write speeds inside a drive's fw were one for each category. So a writing speed for CD-R, one for CD+R, one for DVD-R and so on. After reading a bit the huge list that loads up once I opened up my dumped fw, it seems to me that appearently there's a writing speed set for each type/brand of disc instead. Correct?
  3. Supposing the above question gets an affirmative answer, does it mean that I am to change the writing speed limits for each of the CD brands/types I want to use with my drive?
I guess this will be more than enough questions from me for now. Thanks for any help provided
