It would work on a .BIN file. I'd guess that the .EXE feature for MCSE is only for LiteOn XFlash 2.0.4 or earlier. Flash your drive, and then dump the firmware to a .BIN file using MtkFlash.

Right. If you start this exe file, you will see a window named "windows flash". While it is open, look into a temporary directory, probably c:\windows\temp. You will see a directory named PACxx.tmp.DIR, the xx characters may vary. Inside this directory you will find the A07F.HEX firmware file, which can be loaded.

The flash and extract with mtkflash method should work ofcourse. I do not have a BTC drive, so when I tried to get the firmware out of the running binary, I found it in the temp dir

Now I have another problem,
After I edited the firmware and going to save it but the program saved it in the bin format not the hex one. what program do I need to use? mtkflash?

Already answered here, before you asked this question . 4x is the max speed on -R for x11 drives.

I assume that if Lite-On releases new firmware and I apply it, it will overwrite any changes I've made and new codes I have added --- so I should first check it to see if any of my added codes have made it into the new firmware, and if not add them again - not to mention any changes I had made to existing codes, THEN apply it. Correct?

I'm pretty new at this, but I'm learning..! My problem is that I want to slow down the burning-process. I've tried both the Omnipatcher, and now this eminet tool, but still no luck. When I use the DVD Identfier, I get these results:

I'm trying to burn this disc in 2,4X speed, but I've still not managed that. I can see out of the drive capabilities that the drive supports 4-6 and 8 on thid disc. Is this the reason why it won't do it? If so; why can it burn other discs in 2,4X?

I will probably live it over if this issue remains unsolved, but it sure would've been fun to find out why I can't get it to work..

Especially with the 1xx3 firmwares you can only choose between some speeds. The firmware has several tables and your media is in a table that does not support 2.4x speed. You can however change the write strategy with omnipatcher to a media that supports 2.4x writing or change the media code strings with MCSE.
Why do you want to burn with 2.4x speed only ? The burning results probably will get worse at that speed.

DVD Identifier reports the capabilities of the disc, not the drives configuration for the inserted disc. Use Nero CD-DVD Speeds disc info or KProbes disc info or Smartburn or Nero Infotool. These will tell you the maximum burn speed available for the inserted media.

Be careful; some media will not burn well below 4x.

Thank you guys, for responding!
The reason why I want to burn at 2,4 is that I've got an old Sammy DVD player, and it is not designed for either DVD-R or DVD+R. However it does play DVD-ROM discs, but only if they're burnt at 2,4, and very few 4x-discs. I therefore conclude with: slow burning=nice for my old Sammy It is common knowledge that slow burning (at least on CD's) makes fewer errors, and fewer errors makes the reading job easier for old DVD-players, or so it seems..

How do I do this? In Omnipatcher I've tried to just tick the 2,4 box, and then save the exe-file. While installed the firmware will allow me to pick 2,4 in any burning-prog (NERO aso), but if I try to burn, the disc is destroyed.

The media code string, how do I change that? I've tried the MCSE, and I pasted in the required data, and I ticked of for 2,4 as well. Same result as the Omni-patch though...

As I said, I'm a novice at this..
