Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

On some firmwares (e.g. Liteon and LG) MCSE swaps the strategies by renaming the target strategy name to the source strategy name, so the target strategy (usually the faster media type) is lost. The strat swapping for the Benq and NEC firmwares copies some media table data. The target strategy is still available, so the swap is lossless.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

Probably there will be no Pioneer support. I still want to add the LG 4120/60 and some NEC firmwares which differ alot from the 3520/40 firmwares. The Benq 1640 also needs better swapping support.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

Thread moved to and stuck in the neutral zone now that MCSE supports pretty much any type of writer.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

Welcome
Your 811 can not handle 16x media with the latest firmware, so you spend too much money on your media. The easiest way to use MCC 004 media is to rename MCC 003 to MCC 004 by clicking on the MCC 003 entry and edit 003 in the Ext field to 004, click on Set, save and flash the saved firmware. This method will remove the MCC 003 entry, so the firmware does not know how to burn this media anymore. No problem as long you do not have this media type. In case you still need the original write strategy, you better use omnipatcher and follow this instructions.

Thanks, I just overwrote one of the other ones and capped it out at 8x. Works fine. I only spent $20 for the 50 pack, since it was what best buy had on sale hehe.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

I doubt that 'one of the other ones' really works fine. You should take the MCC 003 strategy. You can do this also with the prepatched firmware using omnipatcher without loosing the realy MCC 003 MID by double clicking the added MCC 004 code and selecting MCC 003 as new write strategy.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

actually, it was the "MCC XXX-000" one that I changed to MCC 004-000. XXX being represented by blank spaces. When I said "other ones" I meant other MCC not other brands. As for "working fine" I've burnt several discs this afternoon and haven't encountered any problems. Should I be worried about anything?

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers

You might want to check if the discs you burned are readable, as there is no checking done during the burn .

Use Nero CD-DVD Speed's quality test, scan disc and transfer rate test for this...

Edit: Quite possibly the MCC000 will use the MCC003 strategies for the speeds above 2.4x anyway

Hi,

Congratulations for this very useful tool!
And I have a question. What will happened if I try to patch the new A105 firmware to my LG GSA-4163B drive?

Welcome
The table structures of A104 and A105 are the same, so it should work without any problem. The the only thing that will happen is that you void your warranty.
