I own TOSHIBA M45-S355 which came with Matshita UJ-831.

I have noticed that http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1986 this section is also updated with the new TOSHIBA driver

1.02

Should I use this or not? My nero limits to 2x on DVD takes FOREVER..

This 1.02 should work fine for your drive.
However, try to only use high quality media with this drive!

i see... and about the writing speed ?? once the media recognition is fixed the drive should work properly... or not ?

CRISIS OVER!!!

I have finally found a solution to watching DVD from other regions that is free. (Well, in my case I actually paid for DVDIdle Pro but you dont have to have it for this to work).

I have a Mashita UJ831 1.01Da driver and I have installed a program called "patin-couffin" (Goole search it, its your first result). Install it first, reboot and then find a program called "DVD43" (also goole search, its your first result). Install DVD43, reboot.

Then when you boot your computer, you should have a yellow face next to your computer clock. Insert any DVD, (dont run your DVD player yet) then after reading the DVD, the face should turn a 'cheeky green' which means that it has broken the region protect.

Now run your DVD program (I have WinDVD 5 platinum) and you should be able to watch DVD from a different region to what is currently set.

WinDVD is known for making trouble...

Better use PowerDVD or to use free software take DVD43 and VideoLanClient!

DVDIdle and similar software solutions will NOT work on most of all MAtshita drives as mentioned by the authors on their site....

mmm a firmware downgrade generally is not possible...

the problem may be caused by a bad media... did you try a quality media like TDK, Philips or Verbatim ?

ok, this simple solution (from asus forum) looks like is working:

i did it and tried to burn 3.5 GB at 4x speed (the higher with the media i had, since with the fuc***g Verbatim 16x i could burn only at 2x ) ad it tooks 14 mins.

It should had taken about 10 BUT:

- the first 5-600 MB are written slowly (2x I presume)
- lead IN-OUT takes its time

i'll try other 8x media and see...

hey!!i was looking about which dvd brands to buy for my UJ-840D, the weird thing is that i have almost the same problem, u c, what happens is that i can burn but only in rewriteble discs and dont know why, i use lots of brands and they worked, and one month ago i bought again imation,but simple doesnt work the normal burned cd thing, as i mention it burns but only on re dvd's

so i really dont know how to treat this s....

does anyone knows??and well it comes with my acer aspire 1691, that i bought just last year

, so if anyone knows or just a clue...thanks

hi! please forgive me but i am really new to this.I got sony vaio vgn-fs115E laptop with matshita uj-831 Da. Problem is it does not want to burn anything.it is leaving cds empty but somehow in next session it cannot be recorded.Is there any special software for that?It did the same with DVD-RW record.One i was trying to burn avi on cd-r and what got recorded was some txt file bearing same name as taht avi.Is that serious or just know-how question?
