Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-811...Can anyone help..??!

Hello there,

I have a Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-811 in an ACER Aspire 1700 and am having a few problems. The drive will burn and play DVDs and CDs, but I can't read any discs i.e. if I insert a disc and open a window to browse the files, there is nothing there. This means that I can't copy any files from a data CD or DVD, install any software or (more importantly) rip any video DVDs.

I've returned the laptop back to ACER and their 'technicians' tell me there is no fault and everything is working OK. There is H101 firmware installed and I have just downloaded the latest, H102, but I haven't got a Scooby Doo (clue) how to install it.

I've read the posts concerning the UJ-811, but none of the problems are similar to mine.
Does this problem ring any bells with anyone, is it a firmware problem, cause if it isn't I don't want to arse around installing a new version if it's not necessary. I'd apperciate any feedback,

Cheers, Gav

I have a Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-815A in an Acer Aspire 2003 LWMi laptop but my problem seemed to be the opposite of yours. I could read CDs and DVDs but could not write to anything. I was advised not to have more than one packet writing software installed, as I had both NTI FileCD and Nero InCD.

It turned out eventually that my DVD-RAM drive was faulty (http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread....640#post590640). It's very strange that the 'technicians' reported no problem when you clearly had a problem. What could be simpler than just viewing the DVD in Windows Explorer?

Do you mean after you have written some files to a CD, ejected and reinserted it, that you could not see any files there? Have you tried the same disc in another computer?

I seemed to have solved my problem. There must have been a conflict between my USB flash drive sofware and Windows, becasuse when I uninstalled the software everything is back to normal.
Luckily it's not essential to have this bit of sotware installed so I won't be using it ever again!!
Still don't know why the clever guys at Acer didn't pick up on this.

hello guys
I look @ the link which you provided : http://www.panasonic.com/industrial...ulti/index.html
and there is not anymore the driver for this.

"Support for Panasonic Optical Drives
Drivers
DVD±R(RW) and Combo: (UJDA..., UJ-8x0..., UJ-8x1..., or UJ-8x2... series): please contact the PC notebook manufacturer for latest drivers. "
Do u have any other option ?

You can only get a firmware for your drive from ACER!

Acer is your OEM of choice...

Re: Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-811...Can anyone help..??!

i have tried all the suggestions in this forum and none worked. my acer 244lm had the same problem, ie blank disk in dvd ram drive (E) wasnt seen by the computer. eventually i looked into the system properties in my computer (hardware) and found a tab for the cd rom speed. it was set at 'fastest'. when i set it to 8x it worked again. and also at 16x. worked for me. save buying a new dvd drive.

Gav,

the H102 firmware update for the UJ-811 drive only works on NEC laptops. It won't work on non-NEC based notebooks like Toshiba, Acer, etc. The H102 firmware update has to "find" the UJ-811 drive in an NEC notebook computer in order for it to install the new firmware. this is why the H102 firmware update is OEM specific and not a "generic" firmware update. You'll have to remove the UJ-811 drive from your ACER notebook computer, attach the UJ-811 drive to the NEC laptop (and yes, you'll have to buy an NEC laptop to do this) AND run the H102 firmware update from the NEC laptop to update the firmware for the UJ-811 drive < this aint a "cheap" solution

OR you can contact ACER and ask them if they provide firmware updates for the UJ-811 drive which I highly doubt they ever will.
