My factory-installed CDRW/DVD rom LG GCC 4482 B is recently a little slow.
It's ide controller advanced setting as device 0 on primary ide channel 1 is Ultra DMA mode 2.
I do not know if this has always been its setting, nor if that is supposed to be the correct setting for it.
I've deleted & re-installed them, as well as the prim. & sec. IDE channels in Dev. manager, & Windows re-installed them on reboot.
It used to read & write CD-R's MUCH faster. I've used Verbatims, Philips, Sony, Memorex 48X or 52X & they all would write anywhere from 35 - 42X.
Is there any way to to get it to a higher Ultra DMA mode? Could its firmware need reflashing? My LG GSA H55N - device 1 on same IDE channel - is currently running @ UDMA mode 4. Dell online support doesn't have ANYTHING on this drive that I could find.
Nero info tools (came w/ Essentials 7) shows it as a combo drive (correct), but with:
Read speed: 15X (No other choice - should be 48X)
Write sdpeed: 8X or 16X (Only 2 choices - should be 48X)
Firmware vers. is E107
Buffer size: 1536 KB
PC: See sign.
XP Home (Dell Vers.) w/SP 2
Dell. Inc. Phoenix Rom Bios Plus Vers. 1.10A04
Dell motherboard: OJC474
512 MB Ram
I use Nero 7 Essentials for CD burning.
One more thing. Does the LG GCC 4482 B have a 6 X riplock on it like the H55N?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!I use Nero 7 Essentials for CD burning.

Many thanx for the quick response!
I've downloaded it & unzipped it to my desktop for the moment.
I sure would appreciate a quick tutorial on how to safely flash the drive.
Ex: Do I need to unplug my LG H55N's IDE connector to prevent cross-flashing?
Or can I temporarily remove it in Dev. Mgr. until I'm done?
Or is it as simple as making sure the "Target Device" is set to GCC 4482 & clicking the upgrade (Go) button.
I just got my GSA H55N working right & don't wanna mess that up.
Am I being too paranoid? (lol)
Both are on same IDE cable & share Prim. IDE channel.
Both are jumpered in Cable Select mode.
GCC 4482 is dev. 0.
GSA H55N is dev. 1
