Please Help: LaCie d2 CD-RW USB2.0 won't burn faster than 4x
| CD and DVD Writers Discuss, LaCie d2 CD-RW USB2.0 won't burn faster than 4x at Computer Hardware forum; I am really frustrated here. I have a LaCie d2 52x24x52x CD Burner and it takes a minimum of 16 mins to burn a CD at 4x. I have an iMac G3 computer. Well in Mac OS X it says 52x and then 1:23 but certainly doesn't burn that fast |

| I am really frustrated here. I have a LaCie d2 52x24x52x CD Burner and it takes a minimum of 16 mins to burn a CD at 4x. I have an iMac G3 computer. Well in Mac OS X it says 52x and then 1:23 but certainly doesn't burn that fast - I timed it. I read that FireWire is faster but there only is a USB port on the drive. I have a lot of stuff to back up, am I stuck with this? I mean, I have tried all possible solutions from looking for other burners but there are none. The Que! FireWire burner worked for like 2 months and now my computer doesn't read it anymore and of course their support team won't answer phone calls or call back. The seller I purchased it from was unhelpful as well. I don't know if Fire Wire no longer works so I thought I'd get a USB. Reading further online states that iMac G3 computers only have USB 1.0 ports which isn't very fast. Are there FireWire cables that can be connected from the USB port in the burner or am I out of luck? I really do not want to get another burner. I have spent so much money already on this stuff and have gotten nowhere. There isn't anywhere online saying what other burners are compatabile with Mac OS 9.2 or 10.1.5 (OS that I have) and got nowhere with that question on the Apple forum. What should I do about this? Please help soon, thank you. |

Another idea: Dismantle this external drive and your other one that has failed, and install the Lacie drive into the enclosure of the other drive. Michael |

| I'm afraid replacing the internal drive with the existing device wont be possible as the g3 imacs used a slimline drive. you can buy a firewire based enclosure for about 15$ or you can use the remote drive feature in osx to connect to a pc/mac using your home network to burn at a faster rate, you might have to load 10.4/10.5 for that to work tho. or you can just buy a slimline cd/dvd rw drive depending on your reqirements and just bear the no faceplate look of your drive as I am pretty sure that the faceplate on your existing mac's cd-drive wont fit.
