I am hurting over here ![]() Hey there, I am new so I hope I am in the right group. First of all, thank you for allowing me to join your forum. second, I am having an issue when trying to burn movies to a DVD+R DL RW disc (Memorex). I am using Windows XP Professional 1.5 GB RAM, Pent. IV Processor, hpdvd640 dvd burner with lightscribe. Software I am using is DVDFab and then also Roxio Easy Media Creator. I just can not get it to burn, I have changed the setting in both programs to DVD9, but when I go to burn the DVD it says it is no media in drive. I also have a regular DVD writer for standard DVDs so I can copy movies. Movie I am trying to copy is a wedding DVD that I made on another computer at friends house. We used DVDFab and Roxio and it worked find. We have set the settings the same but still no go on miy computer. Can anyone help please? Thank you all for the advice in advance. Jonathan Cates |

"DVD+R DL RW" media doesn't extist. You probably meant "DVD+R DL" media instead. Memorex is a bad choice and surely there lies the problem. I suggest you try with Verbatim DVD+R DL media 2.4x rated (MKM001).

| I have tried multiple types of media and none will work even the one you suggested. The error message reads: " Please insert proper media" When I stated the media with error message I was just advising what I was using at the time when I got that error message. I have spent over a 100.00 buying several types of DL media (DVD+R DL, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL R/W, and DVD-R DL R/W). I have performed multiple searches on google and forums and have not been able to locate an adequate answer that would help. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in Advance |

| Can you try to burn the disc image [I assume you made an image of the wedding DVD] and then burn using ImgBurn? Then post the ImgBurn log here. Try all the different types of DL DVD media you have. Also, as _chef_ said, the DVD+R DL RW [rewritable] media doesn't exist, or at least isn't known to us. You may be mistaking the logo on the package for what the discs are.

| The RW logo is present on all DVD+R, DVD+RW and DVD+R DL media. It is the logo from the RW Alliance. Right next to it normally the mediatype is mentioned, eg. "DVD+R".

| Here is the image of the DVD I am using now, (I have made a lot of coasters here lately trying to do this, but anyways I am also posting i think is the logs. None of my other DVD+R's have the RW symbol on them... But here is the image anyway. I have gotten a friend to burn them for me so I am good on that part. But I am still curious to why it will not burn DL at all.. | @jcates592 No mater whatever the Media Package says and/or doesn’t say from the information posted in your #6 posting you are in fact using RITEK-S04-01 Dual Layer DVD+R Media. As of this time date the ONLY DVD DL Media that consistently produces quality error free results is Verbatim DL MKM001/MKM003 Mitsubishi Kagaku Media. ALL other DVD DL Media is suspect and should be avoided (not used). Do yourself a favor and only use known proven quality DL Media that consistently produces quality error free results which is Verbatim DL MKM001/MKM003 Mitsubishi Kagaku Media. Regards, bjkg |

| The DL media you have used is probably not supported by your burner. Quote:

| You've got a firmware issue. JS04 is a very old firmware, well over 2 1/2 years and there hasn't been an update since. I got the same HP 640C dvd-rw drive and I wouldn't even dare doing DL backups on her. It's a heck of a reader, mediocre lightscriber, but a very poor burner. HP is notorious for coming out with drives then issue very few,if any, firmware updates to keep up with the newer media. It's a way they are telling us to either buy newer drives or not burn at all. Try to locate 2.4x Verbatim +R DL media,it may have a shot. BTW: On the DL's that wouldn't work.Don't throw them away. They may still be ok even though it errored out. If there's no actual burn on them, then there's a good chance they are still good. Just look at the bottom-dye side-and see any discoloration from the burn. I'll bet they are still good,so they can be used if you get a newer burner. You can always use the HP for the reading drive if you only have a single dvd drive. For DL backups: I use ImgBurn/mode/read to harddrive. Then after the rip, Mode/write/locate the mds files/and burn away. It's a very good 1 program process for a 1:1 copy like DL backups.
