Having problems with my computer's DVD player

So I've just recently discovered that my DVD player, a sony, isn't working. Specifically, it's a Sony DVD RW dw-d26a.

I hadn't used it for a while, and today I went to try to watch a dvd on it and the sound is really jumpy and, well, not right. It also makes my mouse really laggy, which is something that didn't use to happen. It used to work fine, and I can't recall doing anything specifically to it.

I'd imagine this is related, but the last two times I've tried to rip a dvd to my computer, using dvd decrypter, it has created errors when I try to play it.

I've had it for over a year now and it used to work fine, like I said.

Thanks

joshm641: Welcome to CDF

I'm not familiar with your drive and you post has been up for 2 days so I'll give it a shot: Can you play or burn a CD? If so, you may be having problems with your DVD's laser. Some members have reported success cleaning their burner.

Here is one thread I found but there are many others. Search on "clean laser" or some variation. Worst case is a new burner.

Ahh, didn't think about CDs, but it has the same effect on playing them as it does DVDs. I'll try to clean it, thanks for the help.
