Flashing Toshiba DVD ROM SD-C2502 on a Single Slot Compaq laptop with WinXP

Someone please help me!!

I have a Compaq Presario laptop with a detachable Toshiba DVD ROM SD-C2502 device. I am running Windows XP Home Edition. I need to flash my DVD ROM and I have the correct firmware updates.

The problem is that my laptop has only 1 device slot. I can only have either the 1.44 floppy unit OR the DVD unit at a given time. Because of this, i cant boot DOS with a bootdisk to flash my DVD drive.

Is there any possible way to boot DOS in WinXP without using a bootdisk? Or is there any other solutions??

What should i do???

Also, is it possible to boot DOS first using a bootdisk with the floppy unit attached THEN detaching it to replace it with the DVD unit and flashing it?

Is there a way for DOS to detect my DVD unit then?

Just make a bootable CD. Most popular burning software can do this, otherwise there's an image that you can use here: http://pioneerdvd.rpc1.org/index.html#BOOTISO

a few more things though, if you could please help:

1) how do i make WinXP boot by cd?
2) ive noticed that the link you posted about the image is actually for the Windows Millenium OS. Will it work for the XP as well?

1. Restart with the CD in the drive, then make sure that your BIOS is set to boot from a CD.
2. It just means that it is based on a WinME bootdisk. It will work on any Windows Computer.

I have a TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-C2502 firmware on a Compaq laptop(Evo N115) with WinXP Pro.

Could you please tell me where you find the firmware to this TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-C2502?
My current Firmware version is: 1011
