| DVD Drive Won't Open? My DVD drive won't open, and I don't know what to do. I was able to get it open once earlier, but it closed by itself as I was turning the PC back on. It doesn't seem to be jammed or have some kind of internal problem. There is no disk inside, but the LED is almost always on or flashing. I've tried turning the computer off, logging off, and even putting the computer on standby, but none of those worked. There's also no manual way for me to do it. My theory is that the drive won't open because the computer is somehow registering it as working, even though there is no disk in there. Anyone have any idea what's up? |

| Re: DVD Drive Won't Open? I asked for help, and you replied with something that was very clearly not help. Therefore, it's spam. Please, stop posting in this thread if you're not going to offer a solution. Throwing my hardrive out a window will not fix the problem, and it will cause me to loose a lot of important data, as well as a very expensive peice of equipment. And my computer would be rendered useless. |

| Re: DVD Drive Won't Open? I can't delete my previous messages. What do you mean by you can't do it manually? Is the DVD tray hidden behind a faceplate that opens when you push a button? If so, try opening the faceplate with your fingernail or a pin. What were you doing turning the power on with the DVD tray open? |

| Re: DVD Drive Won't Open? The DVD tray is not hidden behind any kind of panel that you lift up. And I had put the computer in standy mode while trying to get the drive to open. |

| Re: DVD Drive Won't Open? @BreakingPoint First of all, you will need to give us more information to receive help. Make and model of DVD burner? If it came pre-installed in your PC. Make and model of the PC? Secondly. There is absolutely no reason to be rude to someone who is trying to help you. Keep this in mind if you want people here to help you. No one is paid to give help here, they do it voluntarily. Zippity's reply to your original message was a perfectly valid post. I never seen an "add in" DVD burner with an eject button and tray that didn't also have an emergency eject hole.

| Re: DVD Drive Won't Open? I wasn't talking about his first post, but his second post was what was rude. And I was never rude to him. I was very polite in asking him not to do that. I also mentioned in my first post that I couldn't do anything manually. It's not a DVD burner. It's the DVD drive on the computer tower. I don't know any other info, since I bought this from a relative some time ago. I already posted what I suspect the problem is. |

| Re: DVD Drive Won't Open? @ BreakingPoint, To move this thread to a point that Forum Members will be able to provide meaningful assistance to you how about reviewing Dee-27’s #10 posting and provide ALL the information that Dee-27 requested -> The Name and Model Number of your undisclosed Drive – Device Manger will provide this information. Also provide the Name and Model Number of the Computer that your undisclosed Drive is installed in. Also elaborate on your statement “I can't do it manually”. Exactly what do you mean by that statement. Why can’t you manually open the optical Drive Drawer Tray? ALL optical Drives have manual release eject hole located somewhere on the faceplate the optical Drive. Below is short synopsis of how to manually open an optical drive drawer tray -> Check for a small hole on the faceplate of optical drive. Depending on the model of the drive the location of the manual eject hole will vary. Below is an example of typical optical drive drawer tray manual release hole. Close all programs and shut down the Computer. Unplug the PC from the power outlet. Locate the manual release hole on faceplate of the optical drive. Find something small enough to be inserted into the release hole, such as a sturdy paper clip. Straighten the paper clip so that it can be inserted into the release hole. Insert the paper clip straight into the release hole until resistance is felt. Once the resistance is felt, keep inserting the paper clip in a pumping motion. The drawer should slowly come out about a quarter of an inch. Remove the paper clip. Firmly grasp the edges of the optical drive drawer and gently pull until the drawer is all of the way out. Remove the disk from the optical drive. Once the disc has been removed, plug the PC back in to the power outlet and restart the system. Also if you have Auto Run enabled on your undisclosed optical drive suggest disabling this feature. If you don’t have Auto Run enabled then your undisclosed optical drive should not be attempting to Run or Accesses the Disk that is currently ‘Stuck’ or ‘Jammed’ in your undisclosed optical drive. | Re: DVD Drive Won't Open? It feels like no one is listening. I've already explained that there is no disk in there, what I think the problem is, and what I meant when I can't do it manually. Said hole is simply not there. I've looked, but I don't see anything. And all I can find in the Device Manager is: PIONEER DVD-ROM DVD-117R |
