Most DVD burners will do a good job when making PS2 backups.

I've had 100% success rates with my LG 5163D and Benq 1650 drives.

By velocity, do you mean burn speed? If so, then I recommend burning 16x media at 12x and burning 8x media at 4x.

Only buy quality media. There are lots of threads here discussing the best media brands and their media codes. So you might want to look through them aswell.
