The latter seems not to be officially released yet. Some information can be found here: http://www.ourstorespecials.com/sw9576c.html
9574 specs: http://panasonic.co.jp/pcc/products/...md/sw9574.html

The drive MUST be released, since I have one at home here on my desk. Since the SW-9576-C was cheaper than the SW-9574-C at Computeruniverse in Germany I choose this one, since I use only the DVD RAM cardridges in this drive.

The SW-9576-C is definately a cardridge drive, but I do not know the differences....

I have a SW-9576-C in an external FW400 enclosure and it's worked perfectly, except with DVD-R DL (only tried one media manufacturer so it might no be the drive). I use it on an iMac and the yield on all media has been better with the SW-9576 than with the iMac's internal "Super Drive" (which also fails with DVD-R DL). The spec's for the 9574 and 9576 looked the same so I figured I might as well buy the cheaper drive.

Honestly, forget about this crap DVD-R DL!!
Only Verbatim makes reliable DVD-R DL media!

I'm not sure if the Panasonic SW-9574-C or SW-9576-C is the reight choice for CD and DVD burning. There are no firmware updates available and the burning database will be very fast aoutdated.

For DVD RAM cardridges is it perfect, but for CD/DVD burning I prefer my Samsung or one of my Plextors...
