One reason would be that some digital camcorders already have that feature included. For example, the Sony DCR VX2000 digital camcorder. It's an extra step to go from VHS/SVHS, Hi8 or another format to DV tape, then to DVD-R. If you are thinking of upgrading your camcorder anyway, the board may be unnecessary. The Sony camcorder mentioned by me is expensive, around $2000 U.S., but there may be less expensive camcorders which will do the same thing.

costs 399 euro's and it's very hard to get correct info of the camcorders in the shops, mostly incompetent shopkeepers here in the Netherlands, so i should make a list of what's available, and then check the features on the OEM's website, but by buying the advc-100, saves me a lot of troubles i guess. and know for sure what it can do, only thing that botthers me, is the macrovision protection, that maybe is on the tapes, i want to transfer...(want to transfer my complete Startrek -Voyager series tapes)

I would recomend it. I got one about a month ago here in the US for $210. Been happy with it ever since. I personaly use it to backup my vhs home movies to dvd+r. And it works great. As for the macrovision, On mine, I'm able to disable the macrovision for copy protected tapes. SypherXx

BTW: Follow these instructions to disable macrovision: If there are applications where you must capture a Macrovision copy-protection clip, we found that this can be done by doing the following: 1.) Press and hold the Input Select button on the front panel until you see the color bars appear. 2.) Keep the button pressed (about 15 seconds) until the color bars disappear. (Note: with some capture cards the color bars may not appear. In any case, keep the button pressed for the full 15 seconds. 3.) Macrovision copy-protection is now disabled until you switch off the ADVC-100.
