Quite disappointed on this purchase... I've bought from Japan expecting TDKBLD media, but what I've got is medium class CMCMAG than can easily be found here ... Since when TDK has started not using it's own media?

Which speed do you recommend? x4, x6, x8 (x10 is max, so I assume this no) the writer is a Plextor PX-B940SA.

Re: Blu-Ray Media Thread

Some quality tests from these un-branded VERBAT-IMc against "real" Verbatim VERBAT-IMc-000 would be great, as the price for them is quite good.

Re: Blu-Ray Media Thread

Brand: TDK (Printable, spindle of 50 with silver/blue wrapping)
Manufacturer: CMC (yikes!)
Media ID: CMCMAG-BA3
Country of Origin: Taiwan? (Not stated on package - Japanese package has no obvious statement of place of manufacture)
Rated Speed: 4x
Media Type: BD-R
Place of purchase: e-bay (jp-stop)

(Reputedly, I've also heard that some have experienced TDK as rebadged Ritek. I was slightly dissapointed (just like chompy) to find that my spindle of 50 aren't real TDKs - just rebadged CMC which I could have got cheaper under no-brand).

Re: Blu-Ray Media Thread

Well it seems that Brand: TDK CMCMAG-BA3 media it's just plain crap, I'm having lots of problems with them and my Plextor PX-B940SA as described here: http://club.myce.com/f142/problem-pl...-media-309427/

Now I've seen that some of these disks (all perfectly burned x4 and verified with 0 errors with ImgBurn, but they only have ~22GB of data) have some spots on their surface as if there wasn't anything burned in them, and they are "huge" as you can see in the following photo (sorry for the quality):

But DVDInfo and Nero CD-DVD Speed don't see any error:

Is this normal or do I have to worry even more?

Re: Blu-Ray Media Thread

@ chompy
All you can do is try playing it back and see if you get glitches. Might want to run a scan on it in a few months and see if it is deteriorating.

before calling it crap, check some info

1) that color diffrence is caused by burner changing burn speed, that can happen in various burners with dvd/bd. DON'T OVERSPEED BD, quality difference between rated speed adn OVERSPEED can be quite big

2) that dot spot is caused by dirt, use compressed air to blow on the disc to make sure there is no dust on it.

3) not a single BD-R disc is 25GB, all of them can hold slightly above 22GB

Hi nekrosoft13,

1) I know that those color ring are due tu burn speed changes, but they are burned at a constant x4 speed: Their RATED speed.

2) No the photo maybe doesn't have enoght quality, but I can assure you it's not dirt... It's a big dot with the same color as the area of the disk that hasn't been burned.

3) I also know that, what I meant to say is that the burned disk had some free space (~1GB).

Greetings

my point that at the time of burning there was dirt on that spot. I had that happen before on other disc (BD/DVDs) if you are not careful. now before I burn any disc i spray it with compressed air, and haven't had that happen since.

Re: Blu-Ray Media Thread

In your example, yes, it does look like a spot of dust has affected your burn. It's happened before to me - and often I might get a few yellow spots on CDSpeed scandisc, but it's generally okay if it's an isolated incident.

Sometimes it's dust, at times it seems like flecks of the printable coating from the disc below are stuck to the bottom of the disc above.

I've had other "disturbances" caused by uneven dye dispersion at the factory and I have a few CMCMAGBA3 discs with streaks of dye splash at the factory (roughly 5 of the 50 discs in the spindle have it). You have to look really closely near the centre of the disc to notice this particular phenomenon which sort of appears as a radial "waviness" in the darkness of the burn. However, my LG GGW-H20L burns them and verifies them okay.
