| Benq 1655 or Pioneer 111 with Benq 1640 ?! Hi I am having a problem deciding what drive would I get as a second writer with my 1640 . Forget the sig , I've already sold my Pio 110 , it was bad experience for me . I've read reviews on both drives but still couldn't decide . I have the option to get either : Benq 1655 Beige (Retail) Or : Asus DRW 1608P3 (Retail - Pioneer 111 OEM) and crossflash it to 111L . I want the drive to have : -The best writing quality with : TY +R 8X (T02) media Prodisc-made Verbatim 16X +R MCC 004 media TY -R 16X (TYG03) media HP CMC MAG E01 +R 8X media Benq DAXON AZ2 +R 8X media -Very good writing quality with Benq DAXON CD-R media (My Benq 1640 would write them but they would not work with my Creative CD-MP3 player ! )-LightScribe would be a nice feature to have .(We have LS media here) -LabelFlash would be a nice feature to have .(We don't have LF media here) -DVD-RAM support would be another nice feature to have What do you think ?

| Re: Benq 1655 or Pioneer 111 with Benq 1640 ?! I have both drives, the Pioneer DVR-111 and the BenQ 1655. As far as MCC004 media are concerned, the BenQ is ahead of the Pio. PIE levels are somewhat higher for the Pio, otherwise there is no significant difference. This applies to discs made in Taiwan and made in India likewise, but I don't know how to decide whether the discs made in Taiwan are from Prodisc. The MCC004 discs made in India are clearly better. I also burned a lot of DAXON AZ2 +R 8X media. Again the BenQ is slightly ahead of the Pio. The scan results of the BenQ 1655 and the BenQ 1620 are very similar for this kind of media. I also observed that the quality of these discs varies quite strongly from one cake box to another. However, within a single cake box the quality of these media is quite constant. My NEC 4550A writes these media even slightly better than the BenQ 1655. Both, the BenQ 1655 and Pioneer DVR-111 are fairly cool DVD writers (compared with the BenQ 1620). The Pioneer DVR-111 writes more silently. It writes also faster than BenQ but slower than my NEC 4571A. While the tray slides out smoothly from the BenQ 1655 it slides out roughly from the Pioneer DVR-111. For most other media the Pio is in front of the BenQ. Thus, since you already have a very similar BenQ 1640 I would recommend the Pioneer DVR-111.

| Re: Benq 1655 or Pioneer 111 with Benq 1640 ?! Thank you very much for your comprehensive reply So , my 1640 should be similar in performance with to the 1655 thus I should get a different drive ? I was about to get the Asus (Pioneer 111) but the owner of the hardware store (a friend of mine btw) gave me a NEC 3570 to try , I crossflashed it to 4571 (same as yours) but haven't burnt anything with it yet . I've read the reviews on both the NEC and Pioneer and te Pioneer seems alot better , what do you think ?

| Re: Benq 1655 or Pioneer 111 with Benq 1640 ?! If you need a master then get the 111/first rate drive and can be crossflashed to a peanut butter sandwitch. The 1650/1655 is a great slave. Have both as well as the 1640 and 110 and 109. I think the 1640 is the best BQ made so far. Depends on your set up and price you pay. Get the cheapest and also consider some of the other fine 16X drives at Newegg.com. Some like the Liteon, Samsung, LG. I just need some cheap SATA drives at this point in time.

We only have few models in the market : Asus 1608P3S (Pioneer 111) Benq 1655 NEC 3570 Samsung 162 LG 4167B I already have the 1640 and from what I read here it is the best Benq ever , so I decided to go with the Pioneer 111 . I've also had 108 , 109 and 110 before , 108 was the best then the 109 but the 110 was crap (for me at least compared to the 1640) .
