Netflix now also blocks IPV6 tunnels in its battle against geoblock circumvention

Netflix has made another move in an attempt to block VPN users. Since a while not only VPN services are blocked but also custom IPV6 tunnels. This makes it even harder to watch Netflix content from another country.

Several users on Reddit report that they were blocked because they used the IPV6 tunnel from Hurricane Electric, a global Internet service provider that offers IPv4 and IPv6 services.

IPV6 tunnels are used to make IPV6 connections compatible with regular IPV4 providers and servers. This is normally mainly used by developers and system administrators but several Netflix users used it to circumvent Netflix's geoblocking.

The video streaming service started this year with blocking proxies and VPNs. The company is forced by the movie studios that sell content licenses per country or region. Netflix has to actively prevent circumvention of geoblocking to continue to be able to offer content.

First mainly large VPN services were blocked but Netflix continues to block new methods found by users to circumvent geo-blocking which makes it harder and harder for users to watch content from another country.
