Hello all, (not sure which forum to put this in)

I recently gave my brother a 40X Sony CDRW, which he asked me to install in his HP desktop PC (not sure which model). I removed the old burner (a HP rebadged LG). Jumper settings were Cable Select. I changed the new burner to master.

The computer recognises the drive ( I installed Roxio EasyCD v.5). However, when it comes to burning CDs, I get an error message that says no CD burner is connected. Is it the computer, or me who is stupid? I want to install XP onto his HD, but first I need to back up his files.

There are 2 CD drives on the HD- under device manager, one is a Nero Driveimage. Don' understand this..

If you guys can offer any advice..I'm stumped. I was going to transfer his files via LAN cable to my comp, but he has no network card. I really want to get it working for him as he has been waiting for so long.

Anyone?....

Thanks in advance, Adam

Did you update Roxio? Sounds like the Engine needs updating, and one other thing, since you changed the jumper to master anything else on the IDE cable needs to be jumpered as a slave. And double check the BIOS settings.

Thanks, kamikazee.

Downloaded Roxio update file, will try tonight. And its the only device on that cable. Jumper was originally on CS on the old drive, tried that on this, same prob, so changed to master. Did not change the Hard drive, though- diff IDE cable. Will this matter?

I really appreciate the help- who says the human race is losing its sense of humanity?

Sorry to get all deep.

As kamikazee already mentioned, your problem will probably be solved by updating Roxio. You dont have to change your current configuration.

i can suggest you to try Nero InfoTool

if your drive properly connected infotool will recognize the drive, the problem lies on roxio side...
if infotool recognize as cdrom not burner, try to check aspi driver...
if infotool doesnt recognize, the problem is your connection/drive

Nero infotool, CDRInfo, CDRIdentifier etc work as a small check program to me, instead of suggesting to check using quirky to use cdrtool (which is better tool to check your drive...)
