Google announces Chromebook Pixel

It's Google's most expensive product to date and it's launching next week. Meet the Google Chromebook Pixel.

It seems that Google is determined to make an impact on the hardware front with several recent products all tackling the hardware arena.

Google's latest venture, the Chromebook Pixel, is due to launch next week but it's not cheap at £1,049 ($1,299) and it remains to be seen just how much interest this product will attract.

On the plus side of things the hardware is good. Beneath its sleek anodised aluminium exterior with pleasingly minimalist looks lies what Google describes as the highest resolution, best screen, ever put into a laptop.

Added to this Gorilla Glass protected display is touch screen capability and practically instant power up which are clearly attractive features that may yet steal the hearts of current iPad users.

Google has also released detailed specifications as below.

And also prior to the launch here's the official promotional video.

Further details of the Google Chromebook Pixel are available here from Google's website.
