That's a great app. It reads both CD and DVD ISO's nicely. I just wish it could BURN DVD ISO's as well.

I had found two others worth looking at as well:

The first one is called LCISOCreator and all it does is make ISO images from CD's and DVD's. It can be found here:

http://www.lucersoft.com/freeware.php

It's a single 53,248 byte executable and it seems about as idiot proof as it gets.

Another possibility is called CD2ISO, though I have not yet tested it. I found it in the Google searches too.

http://www.dubaron.com/cd2iso/

Looks like there are at least 3 freeware options to complement ImgBurn. Please share the joy...

Re: Freeware ISO editor?

DUNBAR shame on you dude a member of a LUG and never heard of the make iso filesystem tool part of cdr-tools:
try mkisofs @ http://smithii.com/cdrtools OR http://www.bcdwb.de/downloads/cdrtools.htm

the second website is better coz it doesnt need any dependency.

however it has no gui it is command line driven you have to do a lot of typing.

just put your files in a folder and once they are ready to be ISOed use mkisofs.

you can use this guy's gui for mkisofs -> http://members.chello.at/bobby100/

hope that helps. please tell me how it goes with you.

Re: Freeware ISO editor?

Wow, Dunbar really took a hit there too bad he had to wait, but WOW ZBand THANK YOU for those 2 days of effort. Saved me an immense amount of trouble, I have a busy schedule nowadays. Much appreciated, I got here for this very reason you'd hoped, to find a freeware iso editor. I'm sure this question is on the minds of a lot of people as a freeware iso editor would just come in handy for so many things.

I have a virus (worm) infected file I need to run, now i add it to a ReactOS live cd ( www.reactos.org ) unplug my hard disk and network cable, and boot off the live cd and run the file WOOOHOOO no virus infections!

Thanks again!

Re: Freeware ISO editor?

Hello again all.
I wanted to make a sugguestion to all of you fellow techs & noobs looking for a good editor. Sometimes when you have to rough it as we do you need to keep an eye on the individual progz that are being posted here on this thread by making trips back to the progz home page. I recommend this cause the programmers will often make updates the program itself improving on it's previous ability. I would also sugguest you drop a line to the programmer himself and ask for a certain feature to be added in the next release of the program itself as this is how GREAT FREEWARE IS BORN. Make sure if you do this to compliment him/her on making it freeware and ask him/her to please keep their prog. freeware.
Some of you who like the iso creating software can sugguest things like ask the programmer to add support for a new image type, like nrg, bin and cue, or another image type I've not mentioned here.
If there are by chance any programmers reading this thread maybe you could lend us a hand and make a basic script of basic interface that would allow us to go and download the individual programs for editing, making, burning as it were so they can all be compiled into one. You know kink of like the instant messenger software that combines the use of yahoo instant messenger, AIM, MSN and a couple of others all into one after they're all installed to the system.
I'd even go so far as to say check out any forums that the other sites may give links to cause this may help point the rest of us to something the we may not know about ourselves. <<<Yes including me.... I trully appreciate all of the sugguestions that you others have given as well as they are all very helpful as well. Please keep up the good work all of you who contribute in earnest, as this benifits us all.
All of you who contribute and offer suguestions to the pot so to speak; please, please, PLEASE!!! try to stay on topic. Making sure that what you're offering has something to do with image editing of CD's DVD's what have you. If you're a noob and you've something to offer PLEASE SPEAK UP. Even we experienced ones don't know it all.
With the administrators permission I hope to keep this thread moving as this collection of varying info. on ISO editing, making and burning is an ongoing topic and a TRULLY FREE ISO EDITOR (like magic iso or ultra iso or the like) is still yet to exist.

I sincerely hope all of you will help.

Re: Freeware ISO editor?

Hi,
I had this specific requirement. I had created an image file of my Windows partition using ntfsclone (linux ntfs partition cloning utility). The image was created successfully. Now I wanted to take a Live CD ISO (such as systemrescuecd) and add the image to it so that if my Windows crashes, I could just boot using this CD and restore the partition from the image.

Upon searching for free ISO Editor, I came to this thread and upon suggestion by others downloaded the AVS Disk Creator to edit the downloaded SystemRescueCd iso file. I installed the software successfully but was unable to figure out how I could edit the iso file. From what I understand, AVS Disk Creator seems to be able to create ISO images but not edit them.

Upon furthur searching in google, I stumbled upon the wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_image from where I came to know of this awesome ISO editor "ISO Master". It is a linux program, with a very simple interface. Open the ISO file, add or remove files and directories and then save it back.

And this is what I did and it worked perfectly. I first downloaded systemrescuecd iso. Opened it using "ISO Master". Added the ntfsclone image file "backup.img.gz" which I had taken earlier (about 2.2 GB) to a custom created directory "/ntfsclone-image" and saved the ISO file. Then I tested the newly created ISO file using "qemu". It worked perfectly. After which I burned this ISO file (~2.3 GB) to a DVD-R in DAO mode. And now my rescue dvd with the image is ready .

Re: Freeware ISO editor?

Hey amaramrahul,

I'm Zband, the culprit who originally offered the idea of the AVS Disc Creator. AVS Disc Creator is capable of making an ISO image and of editing an ISO imagae but unfortunately it's not made for this specific purpose. AVS Disc Creator was origianlly made for the purpose of burning CD's, & DVD's. Some have found it useful enough where others have had better success else where. To address the other issue that you mentioned with ISO Master. Yes, I am familliar with ISO Master. I did not mention it on this thread as I don't believe that most of the OS users on this thread are LINUX users but WINDOWS instead. I also did not mention it because the original idea as is was posted, to my understanding was to find an ISO EDITOR that was freeware and in the WIN32 arena. Considering what you've mentioned though, I'm thinking about finding the author of ISO Master and request a WIN32 port of the prog... Keep in mind that most of those who come looking for an ISO Editor are looking for (( A TRULLY FREE ISO EDITOR FOR WINDOWS )) <<not shouting just emphasizing for point of topic to stay on topic. Not to jump ahead of you but yes I'm also aware of using CYGWIN so that Linux can be run on Windows but considering that I'm not sure of the level of technical skill of the others that have come looking for a FREEWARE ISO EDITOR, I've refrained from discussing these items.

It would be nice if there was a port for ISO Master to the WIN32 Plat. as I found it to be very simple and straight forward. Please don't let me post discourage you from posting or lead you to think that I'm trying to control the thread. Advanced help is always welcomed, just please consider the NOOBs to. EVERYONE should be able to benefit from this, not just the advanced, or power users.

I do hope you and others will continue to contribute, all ideas should be given consideration.

Best wishes to you amaramrahul,

Zband...

Re: Freeware ISO editor?

In all fairness, amaramrahul's sugguestion should have every consideration. As such I went to the ISO MASTER homepage

http://littlesvr.ca/isomaster/

went to contact and emailed the following letter to the author.

==========================================================
Hi,

My name is Scott, I came across your ISO Master on a forum and noticed that there seemed to be quite a bit of support for it upon looking at your homepage. I was also impressed with the simple straight forward manner of the program.

Question:
Is there any chance of it being ported to the WIN32 platform? If so might you have a timetable? If not, could I possibly convince you to consider doing so?

I'm making this request to you in that there are NO TRULLY FREE ISO EDITOR's in the WIN32 arena. This I'm sure should come as no big shock to someone who uses and programs for the LINUX community. If you like you can contact me with any reply you may have at the following addresses:

((Omitted from forum post for security reasons))

Your time and help in this matter are greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Scott
==========================================================

Simple, to the point, and straight forward in my request.
I emailed this letter to the author in hopes of giving all of the others who WANT the TRULLY FREE ISO EDITOR an example of how they can go about requesting such a thing from the programmer of a favored program. I hope this example is helpful.

Please, everyone keep up the work. Who knows when it will pay off.

Zband.

Re: Freeware ISO editor?

Let's see,

The newest contributions are a Shareware ISO editor which most of us are aware of, and a very worthy contribution of 7Zip. Great one frankpky, every little bit helps. Not to be mean sidsheth but you need to remember that the topic is FREEWARE ISO EDITING <<not yelling just emphasizing))
Any program that is PUBLIC and or FREEWARE that has some ability to edit an ISO Image in some way, shape, form, or fashion.
In line with this thought I present to you my recent findings.
SONIX ISO EDIT

Sonix Iso Edit apparently has the ability to edit DVD9 images. This means dual layer ability. I have only just found this and had to look for it on P2P in order to get ahold of a copy of it.

Now for a word to our forum master:
I looked around in quite a few other forums both in Russian and in Spanish and saw this little tool spoken of quite highly. I finely found a copy of it on some P2P software because the only other place I could find it was on a Russian Web site and the software was incomplete. The software requires 3 dll's the must be contained with the main exe, and the dll's must be the right ones or the software won't function. I'm noting all of this for you, so you can tell me what you know. Or if you disagree with my posting this info... I would like to be able to upload a copy for this to be available to any who are interested in obtaining it. Just in case you're not aware the software is labeled as "The First Public DVD9 Tool".
Please let me know what you think.

Back to our conversation:
This software is not the most robust nor stable piece of software I've ever seen.
Apparently you need to make an ISO image, and it seems to need to be made from scratch, further it needs to be DVD9 in order to work with the software.
I don't know if this will help but when I first was allowed to revive this thread from it's smoldering embers I figured I should hold some of the responsibility for helping all you to find what all of us are after.

A TRULY FREE ISO EDITOR.

I hope this info. helps someone.

Re: Freeware ISO editor?

Hi All,
I read all the posts And I came with something interesting.
For this you will need Daemon tools (or some other ISO Monting solution)
and DeepBurner.

Mount your ISO -> mark all the files you need -> Drag and and drop to Deepburner File layot section -> add or delete files as you need -> go to burning -> choose Save Iso option.

This is the most freeware way to Edit ISO files

Cheers,
Gabriel

Re: Freeware ISO editor?

I'm not an image guru by a long shot, so forgive me if I'm missing something in my ignorance...

...but can't you just use burnatonce? When I open settings and check only ISO9660 and UDF 1.02, I never get problems with long filenames, or renaming. Burnatonce is my one-stop data ISO author program. It's free and reliable.

Re: Freeware ISO editor?

Hello all,

I know it's been many weeks since I've donated to the cause but I think, and I do stress I THINK I may have finally stumbled on to the solution. Let me expalain. Some time ago I was allowed to revive this thread by our kind forum master and at that time I made the statement that I wanted to help find a trully free ISO Editor.
When I mean a trully free iso editor I mean FREE, as in you don't have to pay if you don't want to, you don't have to pay if you can't afford to and it would still be legal for you to have it on more than one computer at the same time. If you read this thread you will notice alot of people giving fine information to get around the lack of an actual ISO EDITOR. Like expanding the ISO to a directory structure, editing the contents and the recompiling the Image as well as other ideas that do work too. If you read this thread though you will notice that I endeavour to find an EDITOR that will let you do all of this without the decompiling of the image and then recompiling of the image later after you've remastered or altered said image.
My requirements for a trully free ISO EDITOR:

A. Must be able to download and use it with having to pay for it.
B. Must be able to edit the said ISO image in the program without
decompiling said image. (program should be able to do all of this for you)
C. Must be compatible with ISO only (at very least) since ISO is universal.

Now alot of people have had ideas to get around doing this so that they can edit an image but this is NOT a trully free ISO EDITOR. That is an ISO EDITING ALTERNATIVE. I don't want an alternative I WANT AN EDITOR!!!

If you read this thread to it's finish you will find mention of a program made by a LINUX programmer called ISO Master.
If you read this thread you will aslo notice that I was not the first person to mention it.

I have though taken the initiative to contact the programmer of ISO Master from his website : http://littlesvr.ca/isomaster/index.php and kindly ask him if he would consider programming a Win32 version for the Win32 Platform. I had been talking with him over a matter of weeks but haven't heard from him lately. Now I don't want to get anyones hopes up to high >>BUT<<
I think he may be in the process of programming a version of his software for all of us poor unfortunates that can't afford to spend alot of money for the pay for based ISO Editors.
If you don't believe me then go to his website and look to the right for the menu, click on NEWS, and read the OCT. 27,2007 post and come back and tell me what YOU think.

Now as great as this is there are a few things some of you should know.
1. This editor is fairly basic in nature but, WHO CARES!! IT'S FREEEEEEE!!!!
2. To my knowledge, especially from having used his editor in Linux it will
only edit ISO images. So this means that all who use it will have to
conform to ISO standard.
3. I know that if all of the opensource arena will through thier hat in the ring
and support this guy and say thankyou by some donations, whatever you
can afford; then we may in time see more additions to this opensource
diamond in the rough.

Please, if you get the time go by his site. Say hello, tell him what you think about an opensource ISO editor. If you would make a donation to him to say THANKYOU for giving a damn about the little people then let him know you'll help. I understand the his name is Andrew, he's a LINUX programmer for the most part and the community NEEDS HIM.

I sincerely hope this post will help as I've endeavoured to give everything I could to helping all of you in need. I also want to let you know that there's a suprise that I've in mind for the future for those who like the ISO EDITING ALTERNATIVE that I am programming myself. Don't get to excited as it's only a front end and is done in a high level language. I won't say anymore till I get the software to do the programming with. It's 400.00 for the software to program the front end. Once I release the front end I will also endeavour to release a tutorial with the front end telling you the user what to do to make it work.

Now all of you have a better idea of why Opensource/Freeware isn't only a way of life IT'S AN ART FORM!!!!!

Welcome to both of you new member but the place to Say Hi is in the" Living Room," each sub forum has a particular theme, if you look around a little more maybe you will see what I mean. For instance, both of the above posts should have been in the "Living Room" Forum, where you can make a thread to introduce yourself and maybe ask a question. Happy Holidays to both of the above new members.
Here is a link to the Living Room.

Hi, this is my first post on this forum. Thank you Zband for finding this software. Although a Win32 version would be useful, this is fine for now. I found CDBurnerXP (www.cdburnerxp.se), which also looks great and may do the job. Thanks again.

I found it, but I see it can not edit ISO images in place. It can only save to a new iso file. Just like ISO Master.

Just so that other people know...
