I have been using anydvd and clonedvd2 for years and have been very satisfied, but I recently decided to have a look at DVDFab Platinum.

One of the things that caught my eye was that it can copy scratched dvds. In clonedvd2 a message would pop up that says something like "cyclic redundancy error" and would tell me to clean the disk and try again. I would also try anydvd ripper without any success. It's rare (only about 1 in 150 DVDs) that I have this problem, but it is very annoying when it happens.

So my question how do you burn a dvd with a scratch in DVDFab Platinum. I just burned one. When it gave the the error I told it to "ignore all" and it continued to read. Is that all there is to it? Second, how do these DVDs play in a stand alone dvd player? Does it seamlessly play by just skipping the bad portion or does it freeze or other goofy things when it comes to that part.

Thanks!

There are a few factors involved with your drive reading the disc. If it cannot then you might try UltraISO and see if you can get the info off the disc.

I have had problems and used a different drive to read it with. My Samsung 203B has pulled me out of a few jams. Also my LG's do a good job. They read a disc slower.

I don't think it has anything to do with the drive(s). I got the same error while reading from both of my DVD drives ...BenQ 1640 (BSLB) and a BenQ 1640 (BSRB)... on my XP Desktop system. AND, my SH-203B (SB01) on my Vista system.

The problem is with a tiny scratch on the DVD. I cleaned it with brasso (some people might cringe at that) which has worked a few times in the past, but it must be too deep.

So my question is how do you use DVDFab for scratched DVDs? Do you just tell it to "ignore all" when it starts to read the scratched area? AND, how does the DVD perform in a standalone player.

If you cannot get your drive to read the disc then you don't have a complete file(s) so unless you get the drive to read the disc then no burning. Unless you edit the error out.

I cannot answer your question as i have had to use my other drives to read the disc. Software does not make a drive read a damaged disc better.

I appreciate you trying to help. I must not be making myself very clear.

OK, here is what I did...

After anyDVD/ cloneDVD2 failed to read this scratched DVD, I tried DVDFab Platinum. DVDFab stopped reading/ripping about 3/4 of the way through just like it did for anyDVD/ CloneDVD2. However, it gave me the option of "cancel, ignore, ignore all" (or something like that). When I click "ignore all". It continued to read and burned the dvd. The just put the DVD in my stand alone player and works. So my question (so I don't have to watch this 2 1/2 hour movie with a critical eye, and I just watched it recently) is for anyone that has experience with DVDFabs feature as outlined on their website to "Backup scratched/dirty disc" (that's a cut and paste).

I realize that software can not make a DVD burner read something tht is not there, but DVDFab DOES somehow burn it anyway. I'm wondering if that means trouble with skipping and erratic behavior or if DVDFab does a nice job of just removing the bad portion... so when the DVD is viewed in a standalone you might miss 30 seconds or so... but nothing erratic.
