This is a good " burn of the Fly " program. If you have a file on your HD, this program is a dream to burn it with.

Great review, I had been considering this program. I have used Nero for years but it has become such bloatware that even downloading updates for it is a major undertaking. The only thing that concerns me is the license provides for free updates for only one year. so that means shelling out 25.00 a year every year ot have the latest version.

This was a pretty easy review to do; the program worked so smoothly it was virtually trouble free.

I downloaded and installed Cheetah, and I have to agree it is a very good program. small, fast, and capable. I will NOT be upgrading to Nero 8 or even using 7 much. this program fits my needs very nicely. thanks for the heads up and the review on this product.

So far I have burned several Data back ups and a few ISO's with Cheetah and it has performed very well. the only area in which it takes a backseat to Nero is in CPU usage. Cheetah uses about 60-70% CPU usage burning a DVD. for folks with dual core CPU's this should not be an issue though.

You are correct, I am running a Dual Core Opteron 185 and it burns likes a dream. Good choice iss.

I am also running a C2D on this test machine so I never noticed high CPU usage even with Cheetah burning and I might have ad 3 or 4 other programs running at the same time for the review process. You did make a good choice as Alan says.

I am still running a single core P4 on my main machine and I noticed that things opened slower when Cheetah was running so I checked and saw the high CPU usage. it is not really a problem even on a single core machine. I didn't have any problem watching a DVD while burning a Data DVD with it.

All and all I am quite pleased with the program. and it's start up is like light speed compared to Nero's slow start up. and I don't have to worry about updates that are hundreds of MB's to download.

Cheetah has released version 2.16.

As far as I can see this is the main change:

Version 2.16 has a new Bootable CD/DVD interface with Win XP, and DOS presets. It also now copies bootable CDs in the Copy Data CD portion of the program.

Woops, just noticed that version 2.17 is out now; on the 23rd of Sept. Don't know what the current change is yet.

if they would work on lowering the CPU usage then Cheetah would be a perfect 10.

We have invited the author of the program to join in the discussion; I am sure he is at least reading the posts in this thread, so we will see.

That cool, I really, really like the software, it is a great alternative to bloated software like NERO.

Well Kipper I just gave it a tr and was not to impressed.
Using quality TYGO3 media I attempted to burn a movie that was on the hard drive which was already compressed to fit and decrypted.
The burn time was about 5 minutes flat but the disc will not play in my standalone Sony 5 disc system...

The lack of a log file is disapointing and it would be nice to see elapsed time, estimated time and possibly the speed while burning.

Let me know if these things are implemented in the future and I will give it another go...
